Ward 6 Food & Drink
Reviews
Ward 6 is the best friendly little pub I have ever been to. The space is lovely, warm, and inviting. The staff are so accommodating and nice. They remember our orders and love to chat. The food is delicious and they have a very good beer menu.
This place was awesome. It was busy on a Saturday night, but the owner himself added us to the list and it didn't take that long to be seated. The food was incredible: I got the Winter Salad and Meat Skewers, while my fiance got the fish and chips. I was craving a salad, but I always worry when ordering one because some places kind of half-ass salads and I didn't see anyone else with one while we were waiting. The Winter Salad was a work of art - big leaves of lettuce with cubes of squash, wild rice, blue cheese, and pumpkin seed brittle. It wasn't tossed so much as constructed, and was super satisfying. The sauce with the meat skewers (pork that evening, with a spicy honey mustard sauce) was very flavorful and tasty. The fish and chips was more standard fare; my date was disappointed that it came with mayo rather than tartar sauce, but the breading was very light and crispy. It's the cocktail list that really impressed me though, and will definitely bring me back. They have a whole page of cocktails and adult milkshakes (ice cream and booze). I had the Milagro Margarita and their signature drink - The Ward 6 - and both were very distinctive and balanced. I like that both had a little hot pepper (which is why I picked those - they have lots of non-spicy drinks). The Milagro Margarita could totally sustain me through a MN winter.
The ambiance here is great. It is a bit small and crowded sometimes but since it is such a cute spot we put up with it. The food is a bit funky. If you like things plain this isn't the place for you. They have very unique takes on things and often times the flavors are pretty strong. I enjoy their trivia nights but often times it is hard to beat the people who come every week as winners always choose the topics. The kitchen is tiny but you would never know it with all the fancy and delicious things that come out of it. We come here for their selection in beer and to check out their changing specials. Our typical server remembers us and we've only been there 5-6 times. Sometimes their crazy takes on things aren't always my favorite but this place classes up the neighborhood and I will definitely continue to support it. I believe the owner is typically always in. I like that he hangs around to check out his supporters and make sure things are running smoothly but he could be more personable, he doesn't seem to converse, suggest or talk much with his customers.
The food was decent, but the service was awful, the waitress rude, and there was a hipster vibe that really gets on my nerves. I see others have had a similar experience. Any place that says "please only stay for an hour" gets an automatic mark against it in my opinion.
Charming, historic interior; very friendly and welcoming staff; delicious food and hard-to-choose menu. I highly recommend this place!
