Barrio Lowertown

Waiting, again... They really do have potential, but in the few times (3+) we've been here, it seems they've been extremely understaffed. Our table, and the 4 tables around, us have not been waitied in the past 8 minutes or more. Please get more staff.
Went there for dinner before Talking Volumes, and it turned out it was happy hour. They have good tequila, and you should have one of the flights. The tacos were fine, though a touch uninspired. It's a little like La Que Buena meets Axels or something - fine, but unless I'm in downtown Saint Paul for a different reason I'd rather head over to Lake and get some real tacos and elote. As a side note, Nazr Irfan either has chosen to only review Barrio or was hired / created by an online reputation firm to write a fake review.
This is a Tequila Bar so don't plan on being served a meal. The menu selection is excellent, if you like cilantro and avocados. If you don't, you'll have a difficult time finding something to your liking. If you are not planning on sampling the bar menu, skip this place. We made the unfortunate mistake of going for the food, which was good, but nothing to rave about. We went early, 5:00pm, when the place was fairly quiet. The service was terrible!!!!!! Our first order of "small plate" appetizers arrived fairly quickly so we decided to order tacos. Just how long can it take to prepare 4 tacos? The wait staff, which was never the same person, delivered our individual orders one at a time over about a 20 minute period. Nobody received their order at the same time. And when they did managed to deliver a taco, they basically dumped it on the table without any of the customary cordialities. It seemed as though the staff considered it funky to be rude. The attempt to create a "hip urban" atmosphere was over shadowed by the extremely poor service.
I work right by this Barrio so we end up going there frequently for lunch. We frequently have bad service (ie: takes forever to get our order in, to get our food, to get the check, and then to get the credit cards back). I don't think this is a function of it being busy because it seems like it is about 25% full when we are there. I have also had pretty unfriendly waitstaff (bartender and host excluded). Usually the food makes up for the poor service. Today when we were there for lunch around 12:30, we experienced all of the above plus the taco bar was in pretty bad shape. No guac, no plates, no cheese, and the lettuce was frozen. Wasn't worth the $12. I think we will be going to the Bulldog from now on.
A fun and energetic place for a meal and drink. We stopped by after a show Saturday night and sampled wide variety of drinks. Though a bit pricey, they were excellent and we had a fun time. I was disappointed with the service (or lack there of). I read several reviews of people complaining about the poor service and unfortunately they were proven right. The waitress was very slow and unattentive to our needs. High points - fun, energetic atmosphere and good drinks. Low point - slow service. Not a place to go if you are in a rush for anything.
