Sawatdee
Reviews
I made reservations there a few Fridays ago, and I'm glad I did because it was surprisingly busy. The service was great, and so was the generously-portioned food. The atmosphere is very cozy, especially in the front area. I ordered a gin and tonic with ginger in it and have been obsessed with that drink since. I would recommend it to anybody visiting downtown St. Paul.
I love Sawatdee. They go the extra mile with fresh flowers, local art and always great music. The open kitchen is a huge plus, you can see as a customer how clean and well ran it is. The staff is happy/fun and it shows through their customer service and food. I saw a complaint about the professional level of the staff in general in another review. This is a fun, adult environment and I do not really think it is aimed at younger children and never claims to be. The wine and beer list is anything but boring and the cocktails are innovative without trying too hard. Great little place.
Been here 5 times now, each time has been very delicious. As others have said, not much of a greeting upon entering, but if you can get past being the center of attention momentarily, the food is worth it, and you just might enjoy the experience. Must say, I've only had vegetarian dishes, but all have been extremely flavorful!
I often go to Sawatdee over my lunch break. The food is simply amazing, but the wait time to get it is super long. There is never enough people staffed.
The food was good, but SOOO not worth the way we were treated. The hostess and the waitress were extremely rude. One of the women I ate with had to ask for her food to be re-heated since it was served cold. After waiting 15 minutes for it to be warmed, she had to go and find the waitress and ask her it was ready. The waitress said yes, grabbed the food from the microwave and handed it to my friend to carry back to the table. We had to wait excessively for the to-go container and the bill. I'm not sure if it was because we were in the military (we were wearing uniforms) or if it was because we were women of color or if they are just that rude to everyone. I can say for sure that I will never be giving them my business again.
