Best beer selection in Guelph. Menu is bar fare but it's done well. Excellent poutine. Half price wings on Tuesday get the salt and pepper with a sauce on the side.

What a shame. What a real shame. A few years a go this place was amazing! However I went there yesterday, Canada Day. My friend and I waited exactly ONE HOUR. 6:35 to 7:35. No appetizers. No entrees. We were sipping on 2 glasses of water that never got refilled. The waiter never came over to the table, and made a point not to look at us. Is that how you treat a paying customer? I am appalled and a little disgusted.

Was treated to one of the famous 'wing nights' here with friends but they proved to be inedible with some 'jerk' (no pun intended) super spicy inferno cover sauce. Jeeze, let someone know eh? no warning on the special board. Someone in the kitchen dropped the hot sauce I figured, but our server almost reluctantly set them aside and implied we had to pay for them anyway no matter what else we ordered. Really!? Not smart hospitality protocol especially for this long established place. Since I saw a couple of young gals across the room enduring the same treatment, and I have worked tables in my time out in Edmonton, I figured this was a server training issue and not just a kitchen slip up. Thankfully the wise manager on duty smoothed things over for us and apparently the other table in view too. They left happy and we all enjoyed nachos instead that night. I gather this was a rare event and one of our guys thought that our server might have not been on staff as long as the others working the room 'cause they seemed more confident about making such decisions. So good news all 'round I guess and way to go to save our rez-men reunion, Woolies! Your craft brews are the best!

awesome beer, even the features. great food

There are less than a dozen places in Guelph that are truly worth eating at. The Woolwich Arms is towards the top of that list. Anytime that I'm in town, the Wooly is a required stop. The food is just terrific - it's all organic, local, and little (if anything) is frozen or premade. I strongly suggest looking at the specials of the day; you'll often see things that explode off the chalkboard menu. I've never had a special that wasn't excellent. The beer selection is nice, with a lot of it local. I heartily suggest getting a 'tasting set' of the beers, where you'll get a series of similar beers to enjoy side by side. The Wooly also has regular special tasting days which I'd highly recommend attending. The crowd is more mature than most of the places downtown. While it can get loud in the evening with the sheer number of people that are there you never get the feeling that a frosh is going to be ill or a table is going to get out of hand. In short, if you're looking for one of the best pubs in the city, head to the Wooly!
