Julius Meinl

I love this place! I know it's a chain from Europe, but you have to give them some credit for being able to create that chill cafe feel in all their locations. I love their coffee and the Spatzle isn't something you can get most places. There's usually a wait at this location - there's always foot traffic and it feels like just the right place to have lunch on a chilly fall day. I do typically get the Spatzle when I'm here, just because it is so unique, but their other menu items are good too from what I've tried of friends' dishes.
Love the atmosphere here. Settle down into a cozy chair and stay for hours. the light jazz is not intrusive and the food is pretty good and healthy. The robust list of coffee and teas will satisfy any need. As a coffee shop lover this one defiantly ranks high on my list.
Coffee - GREAT! Food - pretty good. Service - BAD. I like this place but it took us way too long for our food to come.
Just bad all around. I've made the mistake of going to Julius Meinl on multiple occasions and left frustrated and disappointed each time. First of all, their coffee is mediocre at best. It doesn't come close to comparing to Intelligentsia, Metropolis, Counter Culture, or any of the other premium coffee that can be found in the area. The food is nothing special. If you're going to get anything, go for the monkey bread. It's fantastic (and the only reason I'm not giving them one star). Everything else is skippable, especially considering the ridiculous prices. And whatever you do, don't eat there unless you're a masochist who enjoys horrible service and waiting over 20 minutes for bad food.
Most people probably think you can't have a small, locally owned coffee shop experience inside of a cafe chain, but at this Julius Meinl - you can! They always have a delightful offering of fancy pastries and classic staples in their grab 'n go section as well as tasty dine-in menu options. Each barista takes care to make each drink picture perfect and at just the right temperature. I'm currently hooked on their Earl Grey Vanilla Lattes, but I'm sure it will change back to the Iced Mocha this summer!
