Intelligentsia Coffee
Reviews
Fun atmosphere with outlets and great work space if you can find a seat. Great coffee and espresso- snooty baristas to match, but it's worth it for the latte art. Come early and find a place to work or stop by for a latte on the go. Excellent coffee.
Chicago's coffee of choice is Intelligentsia. These guys are serious about coffee and it shows. Every cup is made to order and can take a while but it's worth it. There are all kinds of awesome coffee preparation methods available for your cup. You can order it up anyway you want or simply order "a cup of coffee". Guess what. No attitude regardless of your coffee knowledge. I prefer a darker roast but can appreciate a good cup made with care. Intelligentsia brews a "brighter" cup that tastes nothing like the typical Sbux pike. You can purchase coffee accessories and beans here if you wish to make it yourself at home.
Exceptional Chicago coffee place. I initially thought their coffee was a bit overrated (they're pretty hyped up around these parts) but after going to their actual Broadway location a few times (rather than having it at places that just brew their coffee) I understood what all the fuss was about. One of the best cappuccinos I've ever had. The staff is comprised of the coffee snob type but what are you gonna do. Had to be expected.
They have done a fairly recent revamp of the interior at this location, and in the process it changed from sorta cozy to completely not cozy. I guess thats okay--it is what they are going for--but it's not what I typically look for in a coffee shop. I'm also a big Americano fan--except at Intelligentsia, where the Americanos are always far too harsh for my stomach. Stick with choosing one of the daily brewed coffee choices. If you know what flavors you like and pay attention to that, you'll have a good experience.
the decor for this place is good, they recently remodeled it and i am not a big fan of it, feels like I am in a classroom. I love to go there and do my work when I do not have any meetings. it can be a bit noisy because they have music in the background. the coffee is also a bit pricey but worth the price, they always put a heart on my mochas and most of the staff knows my name cause I am a regular. the staff is super friendly as well. love sitting by the window and people watching.
