Double Door

Always have a great time at the Double Door. I've been there for big acts like Fitz and the Tantrums which was fun. And once I finished dinner down the street and had nothing to do after so I just paid $10 to check out a local band and had an absolute blast. Sound is great and the lighting is always super cool.

I like some of the shows held at Double Door, but I've never been a fan of the way it is laid out. The room is longer than it is wide, with no incline, so for packed shows it means either being packed up front of watching awkwardly from the back. The way the crowd packs in often makes getting to the bar upstairs a problem, though the stairs downstairs offer easier access to a second, smaller bar. Again, some good shows, but ultimately not one of the better venues in Chicago.

Very intimate experience. Amazing drinks and impressive bartender knowledge.

Went to see the Roller Derby Spaghetti Wrestling. Worst club/bar/venue experience I have had in Chicago so far.. I recommend you avoid this place as much as possible for several reasons: 1 - The bouncer and staff manager are "individuals who has an over-inflated sense of self worth, compounded by a low level of intellegence, behaving ridiculously in front of colleagues with no sense of how moronic he appears." - Urban Dictionary. We decided to leave the club briefly to meet with friends and so we got a stamp on our wrists but it turns out that it's only valid for going for a smoke where you are in visible sight. What is the point of the stamp then!? We got denied re-entry to the place after trying to logically reason with the stubborn staff. We had to pay cover again to get in. 2- If you want to buy alcohol, they only take cash so either you use their sketchy ATMs orrrr you leave the premises to go to your bank and come back to pay cover again and deal with the rude and stubborn staff. 3- The place is dirty, everything looks old, they don't have a good variety of beers and they should invest on some maintenance from time to time.

In my humble opinion--this is the BEST venue in Chicago. The stage is big, but the house (the place the audience stands) is small enough to make every show feel like a happening. The sound here is absolutely untouchable in terms of venues. I haven't been to a venue in Chicago that captures sound as good as Double Door. The shows here vary, but are always reasonable. Don't come here expecting anything fancy, it's merely a music venue with plastic cup cocktails and beers.
