Bay Area Discovery Museum
Reviews
First time with the grandchildren. Staff was uniformly polite and nice. Food at counter was fresh, organic and tasty. Well organized, mapped and segmented for age groups. Loved it!
This is a really great place to take young kids. There is so much to do. I like that it offers both inside and outside activities, especially with the unpredictable weather in the Bay Area. I love the water feature outside with the pretend fish. The little girl I nanny loves to put the aprons on and she could play in the water all day. Their cafe is nice but really expensive. I like that they offer healthy choices but next time I will bring our own food.
Great place for kids to explore. Plan to make a day of it because there is so much to do and a great variety of learning experiences both indoors and outdoors!
Loads of fun! Very nice activities for the kids 8 yrs old and below.
The review is an overall rating for our experience. The museum itself is actually pretty fun for kids. It's housed in different buildings and much of it is outside with a fantastic view of the Golden Gate Bridge. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. I can't emphasize this enough. Don't be fooled by the organic café that's there. It's terrible. Really awful. DO NOT PLAN TO EAT AT THE BEAN SPROUTS CAFE. We waited for at least 30 minutes to order our food in a line that had only about 5 people in front of us. By the time we ordered, they were out of half of the menu. Their menu isn't really that big. The creative dishes that they advertise are all cute and kid-friendly, but they didn't have half of the things they advertised. Then....THEN after we ordered our over-priced organic food, we had to wait in the OTHER line. For AN HOUR to get our food. Yes, we could've left the museum, gone to a sit-down restaurant, ordered and eaten and returned to the museum quicker than it was to eat at the museum. AN HOUR after ordering, I sat there with my 3 hungry, cranky kids who patiently waited for their food. AN HOUR. The café was horribly under-staffed (there were 2 people preparing food, 1 person taking orders) This was 12:00 noon. On a Monday (holiday). RIDICULOUS. Not done complaining yet. When I finally got my food...it wasn't what I ordered! They RAN OUT OF the waffle batter they use to make most of their kid-foods. So, my kids who anticipated their grilled cheese on waffles, shaped like butterflies got plain grilled cheese on plain bread. I paid $6 for this. Each. 3 of them. THEN my sandwich...the adult one was served on the SAME KID BREAD. It was at least HALF the size that it was advertised to be. (My friend got the exact same sandwich that I ordered. Hers was on "big person" bread. It looked delicious. She was 1 person ahead of me in line and got her food 10 minutes before I did. Apparently because they RAN OUT OF EVERYTHING in between her order and mine.) I paid $8 for a kid-sized veggie sandwich with 3 mini carrot sticks. THREE. And I paid $2 for iced tea. Know what I got? Luke-warm tea without any ice cubes. That place is an absolute JOKE and I will copy/paste this review every place I get. DO NOT EAT AT THE BEAN SPROUTS CAFE. You've been warned.
