Love this bar. Ample nooks for catching up with friends, and the beers are cheap (albeit a limited selection). Head upstairs for some nice people watching, and there's some kind of happy hour special. Right next to Kerouac alley!
Bustling Bohemian dive bar dripping with history, situated next door to Kerouac Alley and City Lights bookstore, in the North Beach neighborhood. There's two floors with many nooks for you and your friends to sit in. Go upstairs and watch the foot traffic of North Beach. Dress casually.
I've come here twice and found it extremely underwhelming each time. The service/bartenders and beer/cocktail selections are mediocre, but the ambiance is great.

While catching the sights between North Beach and Chinatown, do yourself a favor and stop in this amazing bar for a drink and decor that will blow your mind! I have loved this bar a long time. Before I even lived in San Francisco! The vibe here is perfect! You walk in to what appears to be a small cramped space only to find that it's two stories with plenty of seating and fast service! There are old photos all over and antique lamps galore! You feel like you've stepped into another world...one you might not have known you'd love to go! The beers on draft here are regular city prices but the feel to this place has me coming back. It's still one of my favorite bars to go to when I'm over on the east side of the city!
