Cafe Bon Ton

The two stars are for the excellent decor, the outdoor seating and the good intentions from the chef. We went for a lunch with two adults and three kids - admittedly on one of the most busy days of the year, but that should be no excuse for a restaurant in a tourist location. Prices are high - too high. $20-$30+ for a lunch dish with no sides. I had a steak sandwich which was a single slice of toasted bread, lots of rocket and spinach leaves and a small minute steak - good but not a lot of food. The worst part of our meal was the wait and service. After waiting a while to be seated (waiters ignored us), we managed to persuade a waiter to seat us outside. Again it took us a while to get a waiter to take our order, but after ordering (three dishes of about 10 were sold out) we had to wait a while to get our food - only to find out that one of the dishes we had ordered were sold out. All in all, the visit was an appalling experience, which is really too bad. If a little more attention went into planning and service and the dishes got a bit bigger (or cheaper), this could be one of the best restaurants in Leura.
My partner and I visited Café Bon Ton this afternoon for a light lunch. As we entered the venue, we asked the waiter whether we could get a table for two. His response was a firm “no”. Slightly taken aback, I asked him what he meant and he repeated “no” in a highly sarcastic tone. My partner and I were slightly perplexed and he noted that it was too late to order lunch. Despite the rude tone of his voice, I asked whether we could order something light with coffee. We received a forceful “no” (though it was 3:00pm and the website states that light meals are served until 5:00pm). I was determined to eat at Café Bon Ton as the menu looked intriguing so I asked him whether we could come back for dinner. He noted in a rude tone that we could come back at 5:30 but not to bother, as the restaurant would likely be full. He did not offer to ask us if we wished to make a reservation nor was his tone conciliatory. Completely taken aback by the waiter’s rudeness and his looks of annoyance, I hope that his rudeness is part of his personality and not based around the fact that my partner and I are in an interracial relationship. If you are coming up from the city and are looking for a venue with stellar food and superb customer service do not come to Café Bon Ton.
I had lunch with friend families. Very expensive for very humble foods. The staff is not trained, we had to wait drinks for more than 20 mins. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant as they trades for one-off customers...
Woeful service even though it was a quiet afternoon. Very expensive (a normal piece of cake was $16), and the cream was like firm butter - yuck (I noticed this was also mentioned in a previous review). We've been there several times over the last 10 years and its really disappointing to see it now - even the decore is looking very worn and tired.
Quite good value for money. We had the $55 3 course menu and everything was good
