Starlight Cafe

Amazing restaurant using locally sourced ingredients. My favorite page to eat when back in ENC.
This place is an example of excellent farm to table dining in Eastern North Carolina. The menu is spectacular. All the food is fresh and it shows. This place is excellent fine dining in Eastern NC, but has the misfortune to be located near the bad neighborhoods of Greenville NC. If planning an evening, dine early due to the surrounding checkerboard area.
we were mostly disappointed with the value of the quality of food to the price that we paid. Went for Sunday brunch for my mother's birthday. $12 French toast was simply bread and egg no sides. My shrimp and grits was not bad. The whole atmosphere of the place was not my thing weird artsy Fartsy establishment trying to parade as an upscale dining place is really just a coffee shop. Perhaps brunch is just not their thing. Unfortunately it was my first impression and I will likely never be back.
A creative and exciting menu featuring local ingredients. An ambience is cozy with a twist of hip. Take it from a picky city girl, this place is a must visit!
I was told by a friend to hit up the Starlight cafe as it was one of the better places to sample fine dining in Greenville. At first I was impressed as the establishment had a relaxed feel and was very welcoming but as the hostess attempted to seat me and my date under a bush I started to wonder about the intelligence of the staff. I ordered a bee's knees martini and to my satisfaction, it was excellent. We decided on a shrimp cocktail to start us off and then ordered oysters. When I recieved my bill a was astonished at the price. two glasses of water, a shrimp cocktail (6 arge shrimp), my cocktail, and 24 very small oysters totalled $160.00, (20.00 tip included). Had I known the market value of oysters at this facility was triple what it would be anywhere else I would have driven to wilmington, had much better oysters and still saved 40 dollars. Upon reviewing their website I found that they pride themselves on local catch, but I can assure you, no local shell fish costs that much. Besides the wonderful martini that was fairly priced I never recommend this place to anyone nor frequent this place ever again.
