Mellow Mushroom
Reviews
Place is good, prices are decent for the quality of the food. If there are reviews because of excessive wait times, think logically as how an extended wait could be a bad thing. Obviously people like being there. Food is good, beer is cold, service is great.
In a nut shell, college students running the facility at their leisure. After a meeting with a client, my girlfriend and a married couple we are friends with decided to avoid the cinco de mayo rush on the all the mexican restaurants and go to the Mellow Mushroom. Nothing any different when we walked in but when we got to our booth the waiter came and he sounded very confused as to what he was supposed to do for us and would later prove me right. We walked in, where seated and had the waiter at the table at roughly 7:07, how do I know this, I was sending a text to my business partner while he was getting the other members of a party's drink order. We ordered the bruschetta to start out with and once it finally came out, no balsamic glaze on the plate as is on the menu. I could have misread that and if I did, I apologize. At around a 7:15 we put in our order for an entree caesar salad, a philosophers pie and a buffalo pizza along with our drink order of 2 shock tops, a greektini and another beer for one of our friends with us. Now before the comment comes of, "Well we were busy that night and these things were a simple oversight". No, there were plenty of empty seats, it was cold and hardly anyone on the patio, very few people at the bar and at the time we were the only people in a booth. The entree caesar salad and shock tops for the girls came out very quick, and I was very impressed, thinking our food and drinks were coming shortly after. I was wrong. 45 min later, our pizza comes out...still, no martini. Mind you, this drink in nothing more than kettle one, olive juice and two feta stuffed olives on a tooth pick, something any good bartender could whip up in minutes. Our pizza arrives and I have little to no tea left in my cup, the other guy has no water and no beer. We start in on our pizzas but by this time the caesar salad my girlfriend got has gone bad, romaine soggy, chicken cold, cheese going limp. 5 Minutes after the pizza...my greektini with an apology and reassurance that the manager would know about it, come to the table, the other guy in the party....still no beer. After we FINALLY got everything we ordered, the spacey waiter made frequent and annoying attempts to ask if we had everything we needed, but where was he 30min ago when I wanted my martini. We never heard from the manager and the 45 min martini was not struck from our bill. Im pretty sure I could have gotten the drink quicker had I gone to the ABC store to get the ingredients for the restaurant and mixed it myself. Upon leaving we looked over to see the bartender flirting with some clients making me wonder if this is why my drink was late. This was a poor excuse for higher end pizza chain with outrageous prices not comparative to the service you get. Next time I feel the need for pizza, Ill simply order from dominoes, make my own bruschetta and mix my own cocktails instead of wasting my time with idiot college student wait staff, a careless manager and a bartender that should be fired on the spot. This facility was spot on when it first opened and has declined at an exponential rate. If you enjoy the gluten or dairy free fair from here...order out and save yourself the trouble of dealing with such an incompetent staff.
Service was poor, booths are very small, poorly designed. Took an hour before served. More like just a bar hangout versus a restaurant. Probably not bad, but will not go back
Lots of vegetarian items. Portobello hoagie was good, but small was not much and I was still hungry (side of chips is $1 extra). I tasted the cheese calzone and the cornmeal in the dough was gross. Kind of tasted like paper.
Lousy! I ordered a takeout chef salad and bruchetta(4.5 pieces) and a tea. Took 1 hour and 45 minutes. Salad was half size as eat -in. Lady ahead of me ordered a small pizza-- 1 hour and 40 minutes. Got home and no tea. For $18 bucks I expected more. To add insult to injury had to wait next to a drunk loudmouth that was using four letter words and as if he were talking to someone across town. Manager should have escorted him out hours earlier. Guess the $.50 beer finally got to him.
