Good food, good service but $10 corkage fee (they didn't even touch the bottle) left a bad taste. Won't go back in a hurry.
I had the best lunch ever at this beautiful cafe. Best Quality food, Service was amazing than most cafe's and Just can't believe how many others been putting a lot negativity about this place. Firstly i know for people enjoy food and love a brunch somewhere with great vibe. This is the place i recommend to everyone. I wouldn't think twice of coming back, Always WILL!!
Padbury’s Restaurant We arrived full of expectation and more than a bit peckish for a Saturday lunch. Had not been here for a year or so but last time was a pleasant memory. Had booked a table but not necessary as only 2 tables had diners. After waiting a minute the waitress came over and showed us to our table and brought the menus. We waited a good fifteen minutes while the waitress dried or polished cutlery and noisily threw each piece into a drawer or container before we caught her attention and she sidled over to take our orders. The ice bucket I requested was promptly brought to the table. Eventually our dishes arrived.. a seafood chowder from the specials board, quite tasty I was told, a medium beef eye that looked good and tasted so apparently and then my grilled NW barramundi on sweet potato mash with green beans, Asian shallots, 2 prawns and a hollandaise sauce. Where to begin ... the mash looked like an orange soup that had separated, the rest looked ... okay. I tried a prawn it was barely warm, the hollandaise tasted like it was from a jar and was insipid but warm. The fish was slightly over cooked. So I called our waitress over and explained what was wrong and she took the dish away. When she brought if back it was even worse though the mash was less soupy but it appeared they had reheated it all in a microwave and so the fish had now turned to mush. It was really dreadful, and so I told our waitress I could not eat that dish and ordered the homemade gnocchi instead which came when my friends were just finishing their plates. The gnocchi was not soft (probably heated in that microwave) but not hard either and there was a huge amount of shaved cheese slices on top, but I was hungry and ate most of the dish avoiding the cheese. At last we ordered dessert and my friends had chocolate espresso tart and lime cheese cake and they both looked pretty good. I had ordered the warm homemade apple and pear tart. Oh dear ... someone had used that microwave again ... and as a result the tart pastry was soggy and the back pastry had fallen off. In the end I settled for an affogato. Very disappointed with this visit.
Arrogant Chef - If you are looking for a friendly establishment that will provide excellent customer service, do not go to this restaurant. Where do we start, the waitress was idignant to start off with, she was hard to understand, we asked if we could select a main dish as a entree to be told definately no, I asked if she could ask the manager and the answer was still an inflexible no, Ok that's fine, I selected something else, we ordered 4 meals all with entrees and a bottle of wine and drinks, the teenage children with us did not want anything rich so we opted for just standard fish and chips, the waitress looked a bit bemused when we placed the order but wrote it down anyway, wine was delivered to the table and then the waitress returned to the table and said that the chef has refused to cook fish and chips even though fish and chips is on the menu for children, we said well just do the kids fish and chips and increase the size and charge accordingly, she said the kids have to be no more than 12 but she went way and came back and said no, the chef refuses, we said Ok we will leave then, so she said she will check again and still the answer was no. Absolute waste of time visiting this inflexible restaurant, we will not return, shame because the decor looked OK and food looked OK but the shear arrogance of the chef has displayed to us that this chef does not care abut his customers and as such we will be telling as many people as possible.
My wife and I go to Padbury's on special occasions and were there last on October 25, 2012. In advance I looked up this web page and was concerned about some of the negative sounding reviews. One in particular stopped me -- the remark about the 'thump, thump' music. So I called and asked what music was playing at the moment and the response was 'modern jazz'. We booked our evening as we both hate to dine with annoying background music. In all it was a great evening: food was excellent, staff attentive, friendly and appropriate. We will continue to return when we want to celebrate in style.
