I guess I have to give this place one star....otherwise it would be zero. I have been to this place a few times, most of them 5+ years ago. I just recently went back last week with a friend and it was even worse than I remember! The older lady behind the bar is simply a drink-nazi. I took a drink out on the patio (I didn't want to be roofied, like most normal people, so I took it with me) and got the screaming of my life. Apparently there is a sign on the door (among about 50 thousand old/upcoming band flyers) that says "No Drinks On Patio" that I missed on accident. Why is this?? Natty P's is too cheap to acquire a patio license. The same goes for the bathroom, so just expect to leave your drink out for anyone and everyone to do with as they please when you leave a table. They have literally 4 drink choices. The bartender does not want to make mixed drinks, not that I asked for any. You can pick between canned Pabst, Bud, Bud Light, and something else. I paid $2.50 for each 12oz Pabst, which is ridiculous considering Pabst is cheaper even in a place like Portland. The bands (boy I felt even worse for them) were playing with literally no microphone at all. The bass was so loud it over-powered the vocals completely and was never fixed. The microphone itself, was taped to a dolly between what looked like two drum sticks. Some of the singers actually smacked their faces with the contraption during the shows. (Sorry, but I did laugh) Last, but not least....the place smelled like cat piss. Good thing it is basically blackout dark in there, otherwise, I am sure I would have had a heart-attack. Never again will I be back.
I've played a few shows there and I really have a lot of problems with this place. Dr. bob was really nice once approached, but his wife Wanda looked and acted like a tweaker. She changed our payment deal as if she forgot we'd ever worked it out and shook hands on it. She shortchanged us on drinks, overran our tab [she was too high to realize we were keeping track on paper], and got in to a big argument when I called her on it. She was extremely rude to my wife, and her bartender hobag was too busy talking on her cell phone or staring off in to space to serve us even when we were the only customers at the bar, and this was the first couple times we went there as customers. Bob was there most of the time with his nose in a drink acting like nothing was wrong. His testis must have shriveled in to peanuts from the cancer.Hopefully Bob will retire, Wanda will o.d. on meth, and some legitimate humans will take the place over. It has great potential, but not with a couple of retarded drug addict Missurah trashbags running it. And by the way, I even played for free during two benefits and still got treated like crap. That shows you what a pig this woman truly is. Even the bouncer apologized to me when I left, telling me that she's run off so many customers that they can hardly get a good crowd anymore.
Wow!!! I used to play this club back in 1989-1991ish. from reading these reviews, it sounds like nothing has changed!!!! It's amazing. Bob is a druggie, still screwing over bands, and charging too much for drinks. I can't believe it.
This is a shady establishment ran be even shadier people! They are rude inconsiderate and rip of their "customers" and the bands that play their venue! Its time for springfield to stand up and rid our city of shady local buisnesses like this! If you are a band and you play there Do So At Your Own Risk! If you are a customer there be prepared to be abused, degraded and over charged! Do not go to Nathan P Murphys there are planty of other great local venues such as Outland, Outland Ballroom and High Life, etc.
The cozy fun atmosephere. Wanda takes care of business and keeps a close eye on anyone 18+ but under 21. making sure no underaged drinking or other non desireable activities are going on. Dr. Bob is very warm and welcoming and together they book a wide variety of different shows. So overall, you can go enjoy yourself without having to worry about drugs, fights or the THUG-LIFE style crowd. a great "CHEERS" type bar!
