The Claremont Hotel
Reviews
The restaurant was, without a doubt, the best on the island! My wife and I ate here two days an a row, and on the third day ate at a "fine" restaurant elsehwere on the island, at the recommendation of the concierge; we should have stayed here! The duck appetizer is the best I've ever had, and I've sampled duck from Maine down to Florida. The monk fish was fantastic. The lobster was to die for. And the venison was not the best I've ever had, but very good. The wait staff members were a bit young and inexperienced, but I would not expect anything different from a resort hotel restaurant. The hotel is grand, has a lot of character, and the most spectacular view of the bay. I loved eating dinner while watching the boats anchored in the bay and hotel guests playing croquet on a pristinely kept court. I felt at home sitting on Aderondac chairs on the front lawn. The facility is a bit dated, and some renovations are in order. But staff members are wonderful. It reminded me of older, more gentile, times. It is an experience that can't be missed.
The Claremont was the highlight of the places we stayed on our two week trip into Maine and Nova Scotia. The rooms were very comfortable, fireplace in our particular room. Restaurant was very good, the harbor view superb. We would stay there again to rekindle memories of our first stay in 2003 and because of our first experience.
