Red Sky
Reviews
The food is VERY good however the customer service really lacks. I called and left a message asking for a reservation but did not get a call back. Even if there is no reservation available one should receive a call back. Also, the owner is a little moody. I think at least 50% of a restaurant is service so I'll give 3 stars. Ryan, the bartender, is very friendly and a nice person with good customer service.
From Start to Finish this is the best restaurant experience on the island. Despite a very busy night, the service was top notch, hostess, bar tender, wait staff. And the food is fantastic, the duck is delicious and the scallops are great as well. If you are planning on visiting call for reservations. The owners, Elizabeth and James, who can always be found somewhere in the restaurant, are wonderful as well. I've eaten here a dozen or more times and never been disappointed.
I had read some resturant reviews online before heading to Maine and Red Sky was one of those that caught my interest. Wow. After a very long day of hiking, biking, and sailing, my husband and I wanted a good meal before crashing for the night... Red Sky delivered! We warned the waitress right away that we would be needing a lot of water after such a long day and she and the other wait staff were right on top of it thru the entire meal. She recommended I try the "Red Sky" cocktail which is cool and refreshing made with rasp sorbet... sooo good! The bread was fantastic... baked right at the resturant with soft butter. My husband ordered Maine shrimp app which was excellent and my mirco-greens salad was perfect too. I ordered the duck entree and he ordered the halibut... both exceptional... side of cauliflower which was so yummy was prepared unlike I would have ever thought to do. Overall... hands down the best meal/service that we had on our honeymoon!!
We ate here on a pre-season June thursday. We where lucky it was not crowded when we arrived at 7:30. We where warmly greeted and seated quickly. They only had one special this evening, fresh haddock fish sticks as an appetizer. I decided to have those and the lamb with apple mint reduction, which was served with sliced broccoli florets and stalks as well as a scallopped potato. Wy wife who is 100% vegetarian was pleased to see at least an appetizer and entree that looked well put together. She ordered Polenta cakes, with mushrooms and greens drizzled with a balsamic reduction. For her entree they had 3 cheese ravioli with a fresh pesto, asparagus, spinach and romano. Everything was outstanding. The flavors where well balanced, portions are perfect. We could not pass up desert and ordered a trio, which consisted of lemon curd and a homemade biscotti, vanilla creme brulee and a semi-sweet chocolate creme. The staff was aware that we were celebrating a special occasion and offered us a sampling of their apertif's as well. We had a sweet moscato that was fabulous and sweet fortifed red wine that played very well with the chocolate in our desert. Overall this place is worth an 8 hour drive from NY. I would STRONGLY recomend you find time to try this place if you stay anywhere on Mt. Desert. Our dinner and appetizers with alcohol was about $120 with tax and tip. Very Very reasonable for the quality and atmosphere.
We heard a lot of great things about this restaurant. However, the food was, at best, average. The duck appetizer was soggy and tasteless. The lamb was OK at best, but truly boring. The swordfish was cold and tasteless. The best parts were the beat salad appetizer and the ice cream dessert. Service was excellent, and the staff very accomodating. It's a bit cozy, and the next table noisy. Suggest going there but don't expect a lot.
