B - A Bolton Hill Bistro
Reviews
Chose B Bistro after an hour and half discussion with the two other couples we were going with about where to go... and we finally agreed based on everyone's dietary desires to try B Bistro. Our reservations were for 6:30 and when we arrived we were pretty much the only ones there. The place is in a quiet neighborhood and if you didn't know it was there you would miss it. It's very quaint. There was outside seating and it was a lovely night but we decided to sit inside anyway. General Food: We got a wide variety of things and I have to say that everything was delicious. They have a lovely 3 course pre-fix menu but I was the only who got it. My friends are sharers so we got to try all the different dishes. Apps: We started with Parmesan fries and muscles. Both were delicious. My only critique would be that the broth for the muscles was so tasty that they needed more bread for dipping!!! I had the beet salad and my friend had the caprese salad and both were also very tasty and fresh. The roasted vegetable appetizer was A-Mazing as roasted vegetables go and I heard the crab soup was very tasty as well. Main Course: Honestly nobody was complaining and the table fell pretty much silent eating. My husband got a burger which was delicious. I got crispy skin trout... YUM. The steak looked fabulous. The Tuna cooked perfectly. And the shrimp and grits were some of the best I've tasted. I wanted to try the duck breast as I've read it's amazing but they were sold out. Dessert: Creme Brulee was okay. Chocolate bread pudding was very good but more chocolate chip break pudding that fully integrated chocolate. Apple crisp looked good and anyone who's in the know knows that Taharka Brother's ice cream is amazing. Alcohol: This is a beer and wine establishment only I believe but the selection is good and I thoroughly enjoyed the wine we chose. My only big complaint and why this place gets only 4 stars was the service. While absolutely pleasant they were either short staffed or didn't manage their time appropriately. Our server took a very long time to get us drinks, take our order, and bring our food in general. As I said when we arrived the place was practically empty and though filled up quickly our table hadn't even gotten our appetizers while other tables were already on their meals. This was not because we were indecisive. The order in which our appetizers came out was also weird as our salads and soup came out a good 10-15 minutes after the fries and muscles and all should have been at the same time since ordered by different people. Refilling my ice tea took a very long time and only happened because I flagged down the manager. It took at least 15-20 minutes after our salad to receive the main courses as well. The bus staff was also not as quick to clear out plates as we would have liked. Not sure if this is the norm for the restaurant but we felt the service was just very very slow. I will state that one of the main courses was incorrect and they corrected it quickly and after the bill arrived informed us that they gave us one free dessert because of the mix up. We certainly appreciate that level of customer service... we would not have complained or been upset had that not occurred... so I give them points for being responsive to errors. All in all it was a very tasty and delicious experience. I would certainly go back and try it again. Hopefully the service problem was a one time situation and not a consistent problem.
Some friends of ours invited my wife and I here for dinner, and we just fell in love the neighborhood gem. Especially the ever-changing menu and desserts means a wonderful experience every time we visit. You must check out this hidden Bolton Hill gem.
Amazing food and nice atmosphere (when it's not too crowded). Service is friendly and helpful, and the kitchen makes great use of quality seasonal ingredients. Wine, cheese, and beer selection are fantastic year round. Prices are a bit steep for the area, but worth it if you get in on a night that's not elbow-to-elbow.
Great food and great service. I had the pre-fix Valentine's Day menu and every course was outstanding. The wait staff was very attentive.
I asked, "so what kind of food do they serve?" My question was answered with Silence. I'd answer the question by saying neighborhood fine dining. Under appetizer's yellowfin tuna tarter with capers, chopped egg and avocado caught my eye by i ordered the eggplant dig served with fire toasted Cubata bread, olives, and pickled vegetables. I didn't reach for salt or pepper (good thing because it was not until late into the meal that i noticed that neither was available on the table.) I could not decide what to get for my entree, everything looked SO Good. P.E.I. Mussels with green curry and coconut milk, Pear and Gorgonzola Sachette, Ahi Tuna Nisoice salad with Potatoes not pasta, Crispy Duck...i could go on, but it does little justice. I ordered the P.E.I. Mussels with Green Curry, Coconut Milk, coriander leaf, and i'd argue lemongrass. And a small order of the roasted vegetable mozzarella Ravioli. I rue not ordering their Ceaser salad. If you can do a ceaser salad right you are clutch in my eyes. Everything, everything, from the atmosphere, to the regulars, to the veteran wait staff is on point and fabulous. The Food, the food, is another story. Amazing to say the least, Farm to Table, perfect portions, the mussels are served in a heaping bowl. Plating and aesthetics of the food show exhibit the Art in culinary art. I have one side note, there was a little to much oil in my ravioli. Honestly, Who cares. Go, Go, Go. Washingtonians-Escape to this place and bring your A game, average person, with drinks and apps, $40-$50. Also, their micro brew and important Beer list is well constructed featuring Victory and Trogg, I can say the same for their wine list.
