Wallace Station Deli and Bakery

Just left there from my second visit. First time I had the Hot Ham and Brie (awesome) and second time I had the Cubano (amazing). It's pricey, but I think they're not just using the standard brought-in-by-the-truckload Subway sandwich shop ingredients. They start with very good ingredients, which makes an awesome sandwich. As for ambiance and all that stuff people seem to care about- this is a nice quiet country location. Bit of a drive from Lexington but worth it for the awesome sandwiches.
The drive to get there was absolutely gorgeous. I have never seen horse country except for driving down the freeway. We ordered The Big Brown as made famous by Guy Ferrari. I have had better burgers off of my grill at home. It was dry and very small for such a big bun. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If you want a great burger, go to downtown Knoxville at The Downtown Grill and Brewery and try the Santa Fe Burger. The Big Brown would be a 3/10 and the Santa Fe Burger is a 10/10!!
This is obviously a place to go on a special occasion you want to keep informal, but also when you want great food and atmosphere. I drive by it often when I work at Keeneland, and had to stop and try it. I got the fish platter, a special, which was very expensive, but it was very excellent. There were benches outside, and it was in a pleasant atmosphere, away from the city, in horse country. You could also dine inside. Most people go there in families or groups, because this makes the most of the pleasantries. While the fish was high, I did notice a few other items a bit more affordable on the menu, but it still is higher than most places, but the food is better. It looked like natural food, too, but I am not well enough acquainted to know. I gather that it is. The next time I go, I would rather be in a group, and stay there and eat, out on the patio.
Loved Wallace Station, the atmosphere, the constant line of people coming and going, even how they yelled my name when my order was ready. I had the Santa Anita burger which was amazing! Next time I go (because I will be going back) I plan on trying some of the deserts! What a fun little off the beaten path place.
Seems like there is a whole new crew working there. Food is always good, but service had gotten to where we didn't want to come back. It was like it was a bother to wait on us. Would stand at the counter to place an order and employees would walk by trying not to make eye contact. When someone did finally come to the counter they were not happy to be interrupted. New crew is better.
