Union An American Bistro
Reviews
We will not bother to return, if you want to know why please read on. It is pricey and for that I simply expect different. We discovered the Union through friends who invited us there. The last three visits have not been pleasant. 1. We had acquired a coupon of $25 through a school silent auction. Unfortunately we let the coupon expire, but of cause still went to ask if they would accept it. The manager told us that it is expired and that their system can't account for the coupon anymore. I can't help but wonder how they accounted for the surplus in the previous month? 2. Between Christmas and New Years 2014 we went to have a drink and relax, after all that is why you go to a bar/restaurant. One of the waiters had the dreamy idea of cleaning the salt of the floor in the isle beside us and kept banging the broom against the dustpan in a very eager fashion. I finally got up and told her quietly that her enthusiastic cleaning was really loud. Her answer was that she is almost done. I would have preferred a more customer friendly approach of an "excuse me" and immediately stopping the banging action. 3. A birthday party was to be held at the Union with some 6 participants. The birthday girl was smart and called ahead to inform that she would like to come for happy hour and reserve a table for 4:30. Alright, done! Shown to the second room we learn that happy hour can't be have in the dinning room as dinning and drinking is to be kept separated at the Union. I get that. What is there to be done for the 6 customers that are very ready to spent a couple of hundred dollars? Well nothing! The patrons are obviously totally wrong! It would have been a lot more customer friendly and business savvy to admit to an obvious misunderstanding. One cocktail each for the happy hour price and the incident would have been forgotten and 6 customers would have been retained. * Mistakes are happy mistakes made by a non-native English speaker
Very small environment. We felt it was way over priced. We ordered lunch. We order a steak sanwhich which we liked, it was good. Don't get me wrong. But, came on 1 piece of "sour dough bread" so it says "sour dough." It was a piece of thin sliced bread that was soggy! AND ONLY ONE PIECE!! Not worth the price. Service was ok but we waited for our drinks longer than expected then when my glass was empty, I was never asked if I would like more tea even as she passed twice. It's not like they were busy. There was one other couple in there. I guess we can say we tried it but have no plans to return.
Came here for lunch, ordered a burger medium rare. Received a well done burger made from a pre-formed patty. It took a while to come out so I didn't bother sending it back. Disappointing given the reviews this place has.
This Calamari rivals the best I have every had - which was in Hawaii. EXCELLENT.
Very good food. Loved the appetizers, drinks and environment.
