Boudin Bakery & Cafe

Didn't like this at all. Visually it's all great and very touristy. But the food is over-priced for the small portions. The crab salad is way to expensive and lacks any taste or imagination. The Sourdough apple pie was also very bland and to the dough undercooked. The service is really far from great. We were left with no napkins and then asked three different people before we got some.

I am a bread addict and my needs were certainly met at Boudin Cafe. It is a big place and busy, very busy. I had some trouble figuring out what line is to purchase bread and of course it was not the line I was standing in. No problem the ladies working there were helpful enough to get me out of the door with no extra wait. The bread - well let's say "Yum"

If you're not a tourist, there's no point in eating at this location of Boudin. It's loud, crowded and crammed full of tourist kids just running and screaming everywhere. The turkey avocado on crossant and spring salad are favorites of mine, but I've never been disappointed with food here. It's fare you'd expect at a higher price point, so it's a great deal. One complaint: they used to have a public restroom in the restaurant proper, but now they have a rude asian man whose job it is to question you (a la gestapo) when you try to open the door to the restroom area. He will then direct you to the ones outside, across the parking lot. Ok, maybe it isn't his job, but still. It seems unnecessary to enforce that rule on patrons who have been going since before this silly new policy.

Don't worry if the line is long here. It will still be pretty quick to get food. They have serving a ton of people quickly down. Stick with the bread bowl (their sourdough is best) and your favorite soup.

The bread is the only reason I went there on a trip to San Francisco. Everything else was just like any old marie calendars. I didnt like their soup but their pizza was great. The atmosphere is great. Nice view on the second floor and shopping area below.
