I wanted to check out the wine scene here in Morro and after talking to the sommelier at Windows on the Water (who used to own this place) I decided this was a must-stop. I came in about an hour or so before they closed and it was completely empty, which I didn't mind at all as it gave me a chance to converse with the new owner. I had apparently just missed the masses, which again I did not mind. It is an adorable shop with an awesome window that overlooks the marina w/Morro Rock in the background. I caught an absolutely glorious sunset through that window and the owner was nice enough to take my pic. The tasting is $8 for a choice of 4 wines, which breaks down to $2/pour. The tasting I did included a white, a sparkling, a red, and a moscato canelli. I'l be honest and say that I was hoping to get heavier pours for $2, but I won't fault the owner too much for being conservative in his pour portions. The prices of the wines I saw were a little elevated, but that is the case with most wine boutiques. If you want discount wines, you should definitely be looking elsewhere as you are not just paying for the wine, but the location and view. I ended up buying a 2006 Paso Robles Barbera (I love finding unusual varietals) and a Temptress Port, which came to $40. Now here is where I docked a star: I still got charged for my tasting. I am not only an oenophile, but also have a cert in viticultural studies, so I have frequented my fair share of wineries and have found it customary that if a bottle or bottles are purchased, the tasting fee is waved as courtesy, so I was disappointed that this was not the case here. The owner did honor my 10% check-in discount but my final receipt total was still $48 and change, so maybe the $4 took care of the tax? That aside, I did enjoy my visit here and they have a nice wine selection, cute wine brick a brack, and various accoutrement, and mirrored the cute and quaint image of the sleepy little fishing village it's located in.
