Literally the best smoked ribs either of us has ever had, and we look for such things. Plus, very friendly service, good prices, and LOTS of food. We will be back, even though we live an hour away. Thanks!
Great local restaurant. The burnt ends BBQ beef brisket sandwich is one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've had in a long time. Worth a trip back. The pulled pork nachos and tri tip were just ok. Only criticism is the service was bit slow.
The positives - the Beer selection is great, the candied yams were good, could have been great if they were actually warmer than room temperature, or you know...HOT? The negatives - we stared at our drinks on the bar for 5 minutes before they were delivered. I suspect the same thing happened with our food since it all arrived luke-warm or room temp. The appetizer fries that we got, arrived AFTER our meals, the cheese was already impenetrably hard, making the entire thing one giant clump of crappy fries. The BBQ ribs were pretty dry, so i had to douse them in the provided bbq sauce. Service was absolutely slow (not bad), but you could tell they were stressed, maybe short staffed. But you figured being such a destination, they'd be used to being busy on the weekends. If the food was hot when delivered, and the beer didn't sit on the bar, it would have earned an average rating. There's nothing spectacular about this place, except for the fact that it's the only bbq spot in town.
Would I recommend this barbecue spot if I were headed to Julian for the weekend ?probably not the only reason why is that it's pretty slow to get waited on and when you finally do the barbecue is okay I wouldn't say don't go there but just be patient and it's not like there are a lot of places to get barbecue in Julian so that's why give this a three stars it's not epic but you don't have a lot to choose from in Julian either
Absolutely awesome BBQ. Stoped here on our last road trip through California. This had to be some of the best BBQ I have had EVER! Melt in your mouth tender and well complimented with the Parmesean Fries. We will definately make the trip again and this will be our place to stop!
