My first complaint is that it doesn't say Gold Canyon Cafe just says Cafe which made it difficult to locate. The tables & menus were sticky, and the whole place was dirty and run down. In some cases this can be overlooked if the staff and food are good enough, but that is not the case here! They weren't busy when we went in there were only two other tables. When I began placing my order I had inquired about the differences between their Eggs Benedict and Eggs Benedict Florentine. Our waiter acted like he was missing out on something in the cooking area and apparently did not listen to my menu choice. He brought me the wrong order and then charged extra to correct it. Then he went back to the cooking area (which is not in the back but right next to where our table was with only a half-wall divider) & began talking about me with the other staff for wanting my order corrected. The menu says they have fresh guacamole, but it is made from frozen avocados. And as far as that goes nothing on my plate was fresh! The hash browns were freezer burnt and the hollandaise sauce they say is homemade is made from a packet. I have no idea how some of the other reviews say it is good home cooking! I decided to try this restaurant based on the reviews, if anyone is looking to do the same thing don't bother with this place. The only logical explanation for their good reviews must be friends and family that were paid to talk them up!
My wife and I have visited this local business more than 100 times in the past 12 - 14 months. The food is always excellent and the serving portions are generous. The menu selections are more than adequate. The lunch and dinner specials are varied and always delicious. The staff is exremely friendly and accomodating. The prices are more than reasonalble. Overall, always an enjoyable experience.
Great place to support local entrepeneur!! The food is great and yes, they do get busy, but sit back and relax....the great food is worth the wait!!
This was an amazing stop for breakfast/lunch on my trip to Phx. Customer service was amazing, food was great ( honey wheat pancakes for kids and BLT for me) worthwhile to stop!!!!! Your missing something great if you dont. Great atmosphere for kids or just to relax coffee house style!
My husband and I having been visiting the Gold Canyon Cafe about once a week since they first opened. The service and food were always wonderful. That is until this past Sunday. We arrived about 12:30pm and as usual the place was busy. There was an open table right by the door. We sat, and sat, and sat. Both wait staff (Lori and the gentleman whose name I can't remember) looked at us several times. Yet NO ONE acknowledged us or bothered to say "we will be right with you". We waited for over 15 minutes, with both waiters helping people all around us, it was as if we were invisible. We gave up and left. We are there so often Lori even remembers our usual drink orders and my husbands favorite hamburger. Needless to say, after this experience it will be a very long time before we return, if ever. Perhaps you will notice we are missing this summer when your business drops considerably.
