Fable Kitchen
Reviews
Fable Kitchen was the place my friends and I chose to have lunch in, and I’m so glad we did. Those who run this place really know what they’re doing and how to make their stuff. They get all their fresh ingredients from locals. It’s a great concept for a restaurant, and the passion they have for making good food shows. The food was incredible, a complete delight! Staff was friendly and the whole place had a good vibe. Highly recommended.
Fable was recommended to us by a chef friend so we had high expectations. The menu is small (as I expected), but had a lot of variety. They even have a board showing their specials and the prices: great for anyone who hates to ask how much the special costs. Our waitress helped us settle on an appetizer. We started with the Spaghetti and Meat Ball which is a duck meatball filled with mushroom sauce, the pasta is actually tagliatelle, and it comes with this parmesan foam sauce that disappears as you mix it together. It was really great, but I think next time I'll disregard the advice of mixing it together and try to catch the parmesan foam at full volume. I had the Gnocchi and Pulled Pork but didn't like the gnocchi -- they were as soft on the inside as mashed potatoes and eating them was a bit disconcerting. I love gnocchi, but they almost felt uncooked. The rest of the dish was great. I liked the pulled pork, but it seemed like a slightly odd pairing: it tasted like traditional BBQ pulled pork and I guess I expected something different. My wife had the Duck Breast and Legendary Virgin and loved them both. $70 plus tip
Great food, great atmosphere, great people working there. Really recommend Fable. Only thing I disliked was their soft drink, felt it came just from a grocery store around the corner. I took duck and my gf took the Slow Cooked BC Halibut and both had great taste, waves of different sensation came to your mouth. The duck had Quinoa, nuts & seeds, cherries & peaches, which came out in different times every time you chew. The Halibut just melted and was great with Bouillabaisse, chorizo, polenta. It also came with mussels, I don't like them, but I could tell they where really well made =)
Short and sweet review let me try again (This time for real!). Every time I visit here I always get to the realization how much I miss nothing-fancy-but-really-good meals. Located on the old ReFuel in Kits, this cool restaurant have been serving for that exact craves for a while now. My go-to dish here is Steak Frites. Yeah, it's good ol' steak and fries. Boring this dish may sound, but it is not. Steaks, potatoes, mushrooms, and kai-lan broccoli. And add a cup of lemonade to that mix, I'm in my perfectly peaceful week evening. Seating can be a short wait, so a planning would be recommended.
Outstanding lunch. Loved the duck kale confit. Perfect combination. Staff was friendly and attentive.
