This is the kind of place you HOPE to find when traveling! Driving from Chicago to a workshop at UW-Stout, my check engine light went on. I was freaked out. The last time, it was nothing (just a diagnostic thing at the wrong time), but the many times before that, it was a huge deal. The car was running fine, but because of our history, I was uncomfortable driving it for too much longer with the light on. On campus, I asked one of the locals where to go. He said he'd never been there himself, but had heard good things about J & L, so I called them. I explained the situation. It was a Friday afternoon and the man on the phone told me that they wouldn't have time to actually perform any repairs, but they'd be happy to run the code for me. I went straight over. Luckily, the code was the same as previous (my car likes to run diagnostic checks on the emission system while I'm pumping gas, it seems). He cleared the code and I was on my way. They knew I was an out-of-towner and therefore am not likely to return when/if something DID go wrong with my car, but they offered free & friendly service to a traveler in need. I wish I'd caught their names, but I thank them all the same! If you ever find yourself in Menomonie, WI and you need an auto mechanic, I recommend J & L. In fact, please see the guys at J & L--I'd appreciate your throwing a bit of much-deserved business their way!
Two guys own this place and both of them are top notch guys. I hate going to auto repair places because I feel they're just emptying my wallet. Not at J&L Auto, they have good service at the right price. They get everything done the right way and never try to upsell me anything I don't need. I'd take any car, with any problem to these guys, you can take comfort in knowing that they will fix your car, exactly as you want it fixed.
walked in gave me a price for fixing the tie rod honest people that wont rip u off great prices and fast will go there for any problems with my vehicle i went and got estimates from eau claire at youngsters auto and othere places and they were gonna charge hundred more then what j &L did
