Public House Grill & Ales
Reviews
My daughters and I drove up from Portland for a wedding and only came up for a few hours. We were looking for a restaurant that we could sit down and enjoy our last hour or so at Port Townsend before our long drive back. Public House and Grill & Ales was recommended by an employee across the street and we are very grateful that she did recommend this establishment. The staff was respectful, kind, and had beautiful smiles. In addition, the food excellent...bravo kitchen staff! I ordered two trout appetizers for my girls and I had a portabella and chicken breast sandwich. My girls devoured their fish as if there was no tomorrow and I must say, I did the same with my sandwich. We were not disappointed and left the establishment well fed and happy. We are already planning on coming back up to Port Townsend this upcoming spring and I will definitely bring my wife here specifically for a date and enjoy the atmosphere, wonderful staff, live music (I hope again), and the delicious meals that the kitchen staff will prepare.
I waited so long for my drink to show up I list my buzz I showed up with. in guessing they had to ferment the grapes in the girlfriends wine. As for the two hour wait, I'm sure it must have been hard catching the pig for my chops
When I received the food it was all barely warm including the soup. The menu is overpriced for the mediocre food that is served.
Sorry, but this is our last time at this establishment. Despite it not being packed full, the service was painfully S-L-O-W as our server was also the bartender. We can tell the difference between understaffed and over worked, versus just poor service. Our server asked a couple times how we were doing, but didn't really wait for an answer. Twice we had to ask the hostess to get our server to help us. In fact she was the one to offer us bread after we had been sitting for at least 30 minutes. The food was alright, but not good enough by itself to tolerate the lack of service. It would have been nice to have some condiments to go with the baked potato. Also, the mixed drinks were clearly watered down and weak. Of course it was kind of moot since there were not a lot of opportunities to order a refill anyway. We finally had to ask the hostess about the apple pie ala mode we planned to take with us. We got the pie, but were told they were, "working on the ice cream". Electing not to wait any more we went home with pie sans ice cream. Overall, not a class place and not worth the high end dinner and drink prices. Too bad, could be a nice dinner venue with the right management and staff.
pea soup that was pea broth; children's menu options weren't even edible for this adult-mac n cheese tasted like the local water; my husband liked the buffalo burger though. Our waitress was OK so I made sure to tip her fairly rather than punish her for the food.
