Manresa Castle
Reviews
On Valentines day of this year my wife and I along with my parents and my son attempted to eat dinner at the Manresa castle restaurant. The castle itself was everything we expected it to be, charming and quaint with beautiful artistry and manicured grounds. However, the quality of service and the disposition of the staff were horrendous. The hostess, an unruly looking woman whom never once smiled, started the evening off by chastising us for being 15 minutes early for our reservation. When seating us we requested a table near the fire place since my elderly mother gets cold easily. We were then informed that the seats were assigned to our surprise since we were the only ones there. I suspect she was waiting for a bribe for that table. After being seated we were brought the menus which were not the menus that were listed online. When making reservations we specifically asked if there would be a special menu for that day since my 9 year old son was coming and is a picky eater. We were assured the menu would be the same and it was not, it was their "Valentines day menu." At that point we decided to leave and when asking for the bill we were rudely accosted by the hostess once again. Our experience there was one that I would not wish upon anyone, especially at the price we were expecting to pay. Do yourself a favor if your in the Port Townsend area and skip Manresa castle and head down the road to Fat Smittys for a wonderful meal and service far superior to that of the staff from Manresa castle.
The castle is just another old house. The restaurant is small with a limited menue. The staff, especially the "hostess" is snotty and ill mannered. The castle is probably haunted by the ghosts of dissatified customers. Stay away. You can shear a sheep many times. You can skin it only once.
BEEN THERE MANY TIMES AND THOUGHORLY ENJOYED IT. A MOST UNIQUE CASTLE...ONCE THE HOME OF THE JESUIT MONKS UNTIL THE EARLY 60S?.....A MUST SEE? HOW ARE
This is my plea to the owner(s): Read the reviews let by your patrons; return guests can make or break a hostel. Plus, I hear you are barely making the grade? Why is it that you can not invest more promenemntly in sch a wonderful opportunity? Currently, as the place is, I will never return - ghosts or no ghosts. Refurbished, re-imagined, upgraded, and with severely re-assessed training protocols for employees, this place could raise its rates 10-12%, increase its ppularity. and raise its awareness. Geez... Whomever runs this castle is either {personally} dis-engaged or not ALLOWED to be engaged. In any event. it means the interested bodies are not emotionally invested. What a shame. Any proper {and appropriate} owners would be considerate of the castle's historical and emotional value and improve such a profitable and pleasurable establishment over the years... but, at this point, I am disappointed on so many levels. There are REAL castles {right up the road, in canada, which I've visited} that, initially, made me ask the question: " Is this a GENUINE castle??"
My husband and I ate here on our last night of our honeymoon. The food was absolutely amazing! I had the crab cakes with seasoned vegetables and a baked potato. It's so easy to mess up vegetables and not sauté them correctly, this was not the case. The chef was amazing! We only wish we would have heard about the Manresa Castle earlier in our honeymoon.
