I have eaten at the cloverhouse over a hundred times and the food is the best in Chittenden County
Good food, but there are better restaurants closer to Burlington so I rarely eat there.
I have, in the past, gone from restaurant to restaurant on St. Patrick's Day in an attempt to find the absolute best Corned Beef & Cabbage in the greater Burlington area. Year after year I had found disappointingly dry Corned Beef, dinky servings, and one place that actually had the nerve to serve me coleslaw and try to pass it off as proper 'Irish' boiled cabbage! About three years ago I remembered the Clover House in Colchester, and said to myself "I've got to give them their chance this year". Having had so many disappointments over the previous years, at so many other restaurants, I was almost expecting to be let down again. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the food I was served. The Corned Beef was top notch, perfectly brined, and prepared expertly (tender, moist, and delicious!); it was accompanied by 'proper' cabbage, New potatos, carrots, and a hearty whole grain bread. It was stupendous... but was it just a fluke? I'll have to return next year to find out, I thought. If it's not, I know right where I'll be going every year, after being disappointed at the next years target restaurant! The next year I went to my next target establishment, ordered Corned Beef & Cabbage, and was served a Reuben without the bread! I walked out and headed straight to the Clover House. I was yet again impressed by their quality, and attention to detail (It had been no fluke the year before!). The Clover House is THE go to restaurant on St. Patrick's Day!... My only problem is that with Corned Beef & Cabbage this good, when am I ever going to get the chance to try their 'Braised Lamb Shepherds Pie'? Definately the best Corned Beef & Cabbage in the greater Burlington area! Maybe anywhere! -Quality: Exceptional -Portion size: Ample without being excessive -Price: Very Reasonable -Rating: Five Stars -Reservations: You better make them on St. Patrick's Day (I will be!) Not much when you first see it but the little back room is very cozy and the menu was very interesting and varied. We had crab cakes and potato chowder that was lovely. ALso Pecan encrusted chicken: delicious, large helping. Delicious molten lava chocolate cake, we shared it 3 ways, lots of dessert choices too. value was good and the ambiance was surprisinglt nice. Saturday night shuts down at 9;00
From the moment I entered the really steep incline between the two doors that wreaked of stale beer, I had a bad feeling. The restaurant is poorly lit, noisy, uncomfortable seating, and mediocre food. We were seated next to a in the wall A/C unit with a heavy draft of cold air coming in.When I asked the "hostess" to change tables, she looked at me as if I had 3 heads and stated that the tables were all reserved and we could not be moved. I would have left but since we were a party of four, I was unable to do so. I ordered a beer and that was delivered without a glass, the rolls were delivered sans butter, the dingy bathroom was sans paper towels, etc. Not a place I would return to or ever recommend.
