Outback Steakhouse
Reviews
On September 17th, 2013, my husband and I met a couple at Outback Steakhouse in State College, PA. The couple arrived first, and had to wait for a table to be cleared. (Which we later determined “cleared” meant get all the promos off the tables in that section because there were at least fifteen open tables). We arrived and were looking for the Unlimited Shrimp promotion; since that was the whole reason we went. We asked our waitress if it was going on. She said yes, there should be a flyer with our menu. She left to go see why we didn’t have the flyer. She returned about five minutes later and said that the promotion is going on, but that they are out of shrimp. Shrimp were available for regular orders, but they had not received their shipment of shrimp that day, so the promo was no good. My husband didn’t believe that story because he saw the host carrying the promotional flyers. So he went up to the bar for some drinks. Nearly every table was full and every table had a flyer. Every table he walked by to get to the bar also had that flyer. (We were sat in the far back of the restaurant by ourselves). When he returned to the table he was fuming, but did not tell me what was wrong, as he did not want our friends to know what was going on. We finished our meal, and my husband did one more walk around to check if new customers had the promo flyers and they did. We left abruptly, as the kitchen was blaring heavy metal music so much that we couldn’t stand it. After we left, we waited for our friends to drive off and then my husband told me what he had discovered was going on. For further proof, I called the restaurant and asked if the Unlimited Shrimp promotion was going on and it was. So we walked back in the restaurant and asked for the manager. We asked her if the promotion was going on and again it was confirmed that it was. I asked if they had run out of shrimp and if they hadn’t received their shipment. Nope. I told her that we were not offered the promotion and we knew exactly why. The couple that we ate with was heavy. That they must have been worried he would eat all their shrimp. We were beyond offended and my husband was livid. He proceeded to tell the manager that he knew exactly why we weren’t offered the promo. Shame on Outback for discriminating against our friends. None of the three employees had anything to say. The manager simply said she could get the other manager for us. We didn’t want to speak with anyone else. We wanted someone to feel ashamed. How dare Outback! Very few things ever offend me. This takes the cake. The audacity to sit us in the back and hide the promo from us because you are worried the “fat guy” is going to eat too much. The ironic thing is that he was the only one who didn’t finish his meal. My husband and I would have out-eaten him easily. If we wanted to, we could sue their tails off! Fortunately, for them, we are not those type of people. We are, however, the type of people that will leave bad reviews on every site we can find and we will share our story with everyone we know. Shame on you!
Outback is my absolute favorite steakhouse, Best Ribeye I ever had in a restaurant, love the Filet Migon too! Care for seafood instead of steak? Get the "Catch if the Day", a great Salmon Filet they serve with some special kind of sauce on the side (in case you don't like sauce with Salmon) The portion sizes are large, and for what they give you, its a great value. No, its not CHEAP but its well worth what they charge. The staff is awesome and the servers know the menu too. I go there every time I want a great meal and don't mind having to wait for it. The reason there's a wait sometimes is becausse its great food at a fair price with great service. Yeah, I'll wait for that, unless I haven't eaten all day!
This was easily the greatest experience I've ever had at a restaurant in general. I went in with my fiancée on the Saturday before Valentine's Day without a reservation, and there was an hour and a half wait. Normally I would have suggested going somewhere else but neither of us wanted to walk in the sub-zero temperature so we waited inside for over an hour and I have absolutely no regrets. The hosting staff was as friendly as can be, even going so far as to chatting up their waiting hungry patrons and even bringing out free appetizer samples as a token of thanks for waiting so long. In the end the wait ended up being just shy over an hour. Once we got to our table and ordered, considering the crowd that was in that night our order came out completely flawless, the waitress as sweet as can be, and for dinner for two at an upscale chain restaurant the price was about $40, pretty much next to nothing. If I could give this restaurant more than 5 stars, I would.
Outback is the best! They customize to fit your needs, the waiters are extremely friendly and on top of everything. They'll notice a mistake with your meal before you do and will remedy it whether or not you are upset about the mistake. The managers are awesome and the food is always amazing. What if you still don't like your food? They'll offer to make it again so that you enjoy it at no cost to you! I highly recommend the Bushman Mushrooms :)
Chain steakhouse, good food, some not as flavorful as independent restaurants but quality is ensured.
