American Ale House
Reviews
I really enjoy the food and the atmosphere at the Ale House. I feel that their service leaves something to be desired, but I can get passed that. What I am truly disappointed in is how they dealt with my fiance and myself when we asked them about holding our small wedding reception there. After a half dozen phone calls to other staff members trying to talk to Linda, their so called event manager, I was blown off each time. Each person told us they would call later that week and no one ever did. When she finally called, she said that they don't really do wedding receptions. Not only that but she was dismissive and rude. If they don't do wedding receptions then they should probably take it off their website that they do and also tell their staff that they don't as well. I think how they represented themselves is truly unprofessional.
One of a kind restaurant must try
Wonderful beer selection and a great atmosphere.
Though I bike past this restaurant many times during the summer months, I have only eaten there twice. Both times, I had a poor experience, I do not plan to return, and you should not either. This restaurant advertises an extensive menu, which had several dishes in which I was interested. I was surprised to find out when I arrived that they handed me a single sheet of paper, stating that they were serving a "reduced graduation week menu." This is an outright bait and switch that is ethically questionable, not to mention bad business. You can't advertise all sorts of great products and then when customers show up, you tell them that none of those are actually being sold. When I asked for items that were advertised in the website, the waiter's only answer, repeatedly, was to apologize that it was "graduation week." The only reason I didn't leave was because I was there with a large party, and the pulled pork sandwich I was forced to order was not worth the $10 I had to waste on it. The pork was sour and the potato salad unappetizing. The cranberry juice I ordered was served in a tiny glass costing $3 that was barely enough to quench my thirst. Some may call that "class;" I call it being cheap, seeing that the Olive Garden can serve pour the same cranberry juice from bottles into much larger glasses for a lower price. The server, while initially attentive to our needs, encountered significant difficulty when it came to dividing the check. Many mistakes were made getting the correct entrees billed to the right people, and processing all the credit cards took over 20 minutes. I decided to pay in cash and felt bad about leaving while the rest of my coworkers were still waiting for their cards to be returned. There are far better local restaurants in this area closer to the downtown, or the chain restaurants down the street far outperform the Ale House if you don't want to drive. Don't get ripped off here like I did.
I've had mixed experiences in the few times here. But for the most part I would say avoid the location. The food is well made and cooked, but the service tended to be somewhere between absent and missing. In one visit, our drinks which were specified on which named liquor we wanted, was instead replaced with bottom shelf. The last time we showed up for the brunch the day after homecoming, was sat within a few minutes of the opening at 11, one of the first five tables sat. We found out after 15 minutes our server was not even there, and it took us another 10 minutes to receive the brunch menu. We finally ordered around 11:45. We then got our food around 12:20, meaning we had been sitting for 80 minutes before we got food. We witnessed people who sat after us, leaving before we were served; we also saw multiple tables leaving as they experience poor service as well. At the end of the meal, the waitress apologized once. It wasn't entirely her fault, but I have to feel this is still a poor reflection of both the restaurant and the management there. I would highly advise against going, especially during any of the busy weekends.
