The 1850 House Inn & Tavern
Reviews
The 1850 House is a great place to make your central headquarters for biking, hiking, eating, drinking and lolling around in a hidden jewel of an area in upstate New York. The staff is great, especially Amy who is super friendly, flexible and accommodating to the extreme. The food was great. The tavern and siting room offered tranquil places to unwind with old friends and new acquaintances. And, when you're done 'doing', the rooms are peaceful and everything we'd hoped they be. I highly recommend The 1850 House & Tavern to all.
Came to New Paltz without a reservation to mountain bike and hike. We were considering staying at The Mohonk Mountain house--- for upwards of $600 per night. We were biking on the railroad trail that goes though New Paltz and ventured off to ride through the quaint town of Rosendale. There is one Main Street with about a dozen businesses. We rode past this beautiful Inn and decided to check it out. An absolute GEM, and the rate was under $200 midweek. Rooms are beautifully appointed and very spacious. Loaded with charm; old photos from Rosendale's past line the walls and the rooms. Modern amenities such as strong Wifi, flat screen TVs, comfy linens, towels and bathrobes provided comfort for travelers used to luxurious accommodations. The Inn is situated on the Main Street and has a beautiful front porch with quaint benches. The tavern in the back has a gorgeous deck overlooking a river (not sure what river). The deck is beautifully lit up at night. The tavern offers dinner but we were able to walk to two local restaurants that were both delicious. A vegetarian place that was good and The Bywater Grill - which was AMAZING!! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Mike, one of the owners of the Inn, asked us what our plans were for the day and when I said mountain biking he gave us free passes for the Mohonk Preserve saving us about $40 in admission fees. The included breakfast was DELICIOUS. Plenty of options to suit different diets. We stayed in Room 4 - which has a view of the Main Street. The room is very large, there is a separate alcove where the queen sized bed is with night tables. The main part of the room has a couch, chairs and small tables. Also a nice closet and new bathroom with a full sized bathtub. We had planned to stay one night and extended it to two. We had fantastic time!
I had the opportunity to attend a meeting at The 1850 House today. I also was given a tour of the entire Inn and its surrounding grounds. Without a doubt, I would stay there and would recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful lodging experience. The Innkeeper, Amy, and the owner, Michael, are warm, welcoming and extremely knowledgable. The Inn was immaculate and gave me the feel of stepping back in time - to a time where things slow down and you can relax. I really like the Tavern area, too. It seems like a wonderful place to have a "night cap" while winding down your day. All around classy place with great hosts!
Great experience. The rooms were had a great design. They were both had very historic feel with some modern touches. What really made this stay great was the staff and their dedication. They genuinely wanted you to have a great experience. They went above and beyond to make your stay a good one. Plus it was fun talking to everyone in the tavern
