Barbara and I stopped here on our way to Taos. I had a carne adovada buritto with green chile sauce and Barb had fried zuchini strips with marina sauce. My buritto was fantastic and so much larger than I could eat. The buritto was wonderful. The waitress warned me that it could be hot, but it had flavor and fire. Barb enjoyed here zuchini strips, the marina sauce was delicious. Next time we are near, we will stop.
The restaurant was quaint in decor, still had Christmas lights up, wait staff friendly and efficient. Food was mediocre at best. I had the special, which was the chicken wrapped in a flour tortilla with cheese melted on top, what they called a chicken burrito, the chicken did NOT taste fresh. Maybe it was aged chicken. The beans were the best thing on the plate. However, the rice was soupy. What was really weird were the green and red sauces. I suppose they added ground beef to the sauces to stretch them. It also gave them an unusual flavor. Note to the chef, this was not a good idea. This is not Liberal, Kansas. We like our sauces straight up in NM. Go to The Shed in Santa Fe for a good go-by for something from Santa Fe. My GF had the same thing, and she said it was either really good or that she was really hungry. I told her she was really hungry.
I will only give it a two star rating because the only thing that was good about this place was the red chili. I got the carne and the pork was sooo dry i could barely chew it.
The service was bad and the food wasn't much better. One nice waitress That wasn't even our waitress kept our water refilled. The steak fajita meat was good, but the chicken chimichanga was horrible. For the post about alcohol, there was a sign on our table that said there was a two drink limit per person, which I thought was totally weird. The carpet was nasty. The place needs renovated. On our way out I went to the restroom where I encountered a baby roach crawling across the floor, I nearly lost what little I ate! I will never eat there again!
This was a stop for us on our road trip and i have to say i was very disappointed. When my son asked (hes 9 and from wisconsin ) what was in a mexican dish on the menu our waitress very bluntly told us she didn't eat that so she didn't know and didnt even offer to find out. The service was awful and the food wasn't anything special. The only reason the service got a good rating was because the man running the front counter offered my children crayons and some paper to color with after our waitress did not. I would have not even written this review if I hadn't lost the SD card with our vacation pictures on it. I called and politely asked if they had found it and i couldn't even believe how extremely rude the people on the other end of the phone were. This will not be a stop we ever make again .
