Texas Roadhouse

After my 1st visit there where I was served charred baby back ribs, I decided not to visit again. Against my better judgement and at the suggestion of my friend, we pulled into this restaurant. We arrived a couple of minutes past 7pm on a Tuesday evening. The place was not packed, but still quite crowded. Many tables seemed close to finishing up their meals. We were promptly shown to a table, and were promised that the usual basket of warm rolls would be delivered as soon as more became available. Our waitress came by to ask what drinks we would like and had no idea what beers were on tap, or if any of them were dark beer. She had no clue what wine was served, either. We ordered our food after settling for ice water for drinks. We explained to our waitress that we would like our food soon, as my friend had a conference call at 8pm. At 7:26, I went back to the hostess desk to inquire about bread. Three minutes later, the bread and cinnamon butter arrived. We received our food at 7:56pm. I chowed down my dry and overcooked bacon cheeseburger, asked for the check and a box for my friend's way-too-close to burned "road-kill" dish. The initial visit from the waitress was prompt, but the wait for her to come back to take our order was way too long. She refilled our water once. Mine was empty again by the last few bites of charred bacon burger. The staff seems largely incompetent, and it was my misfortune to have the same inexperienced waitress both times. I will never visit this charred food place again.

Once was enough. After thinking of eating here several times since it opened but leaving due to the long lines at the door, we finally hit the match of "hungry" and "slow time at the restaurant." No wait on a Sunday afternoon just ahead of dinner time. On one hand, I don't get it. Food and atmosphere wasn't that great. OTOH, there's 500 calories of free food on the table before you even sit down, with the bread, sweetened butter, and peanuts, and that's a draw for some people. (Given that I don't eat bread, I didn't really care for having it dumped on the table without being asked if I wanted any.) Ordered the Roadkill and the Ribs. Ribs were charred black; "ash" is not a traditional seasoning for ribs. Scant on the sauce. Roadkill was ordered rare, arrived "shoe leather." (Probably would have been a good meal if it had any meat juice left in it.) Ordered salads without croutons; one arrived with croutons. Only four of the 12 sides are low carb. Wait staff could not keep up with empty water glasses, although they were clearly doing a good job of helping each other out. Now we know.

The Ribs were great, the Steak Medallions were greater, the Peach Tea was the greatest, and the service was the absolute best. So good I have coordinated an office party there!

Megan and the bar crew knocked it out of the park. Best service and best steak I have had in Goldsboro. Very attentive service made me feel like I was a special customer, until I noticed that they were giving everyone at the bar the same quality of service, kudos. Not to detract from my very positive dining experience, but I would like to see a small portion of the deep fried onion(The Blossom) available to eat with the steak, I don't particularly care for sautéed onions. Again, thanks Megan!
