Rainbow Cafe & Catering

There's not too many restaurants that offer the quality of food that this restaurant does. I love that they offer local, organic, sustainable food. We all could use a little bit more of this, since it's not only better for our health, but the environment. I like that they have gluten free options, since they can be hard to come by. I must say they have the best soups in town and I love the blueberry pork sandwich on the menu. This is making me hungry, just writing this. I am looking forward to my next visit.
Great food and service always a good stop when in pine island
My wife and I went there for our anniversary. The atmosphere was fine. My wife had some critiques like the sparkled rocks hanging from the ceiling. The menu was nice. It had enough offerings to want you to come back and try them. We started with the poutine, which was excellent. It had a nice balance of spice and was not overly salty. I ordered the fried chicken with jalapeno mashed potatoes and rainbow chard and my wife ordered the short ribs with a coconut quinoa. The dishes were good but my chicken was too crunchy and probably a little underdone. We ended with dessert. We got the cheesecake with raspberry preserves. It was heavy and overly firm. It also tasted like it was made a few days ago. My overall impression is that it started strong but ended weak. But luckily it did enough good things that I would come back to try more.
There is a huge disconnect between what this place is trying to be and actually is. Farm-to-table restaurants with higher prices are also usually known for service. The service was horrible and the inexperienced staff tried to use fine print on the menu weasel their way out of a kitchen error while still getting it wrong. We never got drinks as part of the kids meal and were for the 7 french fries that were consumed on the botched order. There is potential here but are too many restaurants trying to to good to ever come back to this place.
I can't believe this restaurant is closer to our house than dowtown Rochester! It is a hidden gem in a small town. The service was great, the food was fresh and so full of flavor. I was full but still wanted seconds of everything, based on the wonderful flavors. Save room for the desserts.....they are incredible! The prices are more than reasonable for the quality of food served here.
