A local hipster directed us here after he stopped to inquire about The Life Aquatic themed clothing my wife and I were wearing. It was great. Inside we were served by another nice hipster who told us about the specials and showed us what beer was on tap. I think everything on tap was from Minnesota, and the beers my wife and I had were fantastic. For lunch we had a burger with a name I can't remember, and it was wonderful. Can't think of anything bad to say about it. The atmosphere inside is intimate and warm. They have a large wine menu as well.

We eat here about every other month and are never disappointed. The signature French Onion Soup is as close to perfect as you can get, the daily specials are fantastic. Last week I had the meatball sandwich on a perfectly toasted roll. You cannot go wrong eating at the Crooked Spoon.

Had great food and service every time I've been there. The menu is small but interesting, two things I appreciate. Last visit was another first for me - alpaca. The server advised me that it was "very flavorful, but a little chewy". That was probably wise - I really enjoyed but it an unprepared diner might be unpleasantly surprised. Can't wait to see what's on special next time.

Had the hanger steak during a visit to Grand Marais in May. It was one of the most flavorful pieces of beef I have ever eaten. A very memorable meal at The Crooked Spoon!! Kudos.

We have eaten here twice, and both are two of the most memorable meals I've ever had. My boyfriend and I ate here almost a year and a half ago for lunch. I had the Crooked BLT - and I swear I'm still having dreams about that sandwich. After lunch that time we got Bananas Foster for dessert. Just tonight we got back to Grand Marais, and we made this restaurant our first stop. I had the pan-roasted duck breast, duck leg, with butternut squash and wheat berries with cranberry gastrique. My boyfriend had roast lamb with brussel sprouts and white corn polenta. Both were incredible. We have been to a lot of good restaurants, but I don't think I've ever been somewhere before that was both exceptionally imaginative AND spot on with every dish. The closest place I can compare this to in the cities is Victory 44, but with larger, more formal entrees. You just can't go wrong here with food - and everything always pairs perfectly. I will say though, that the server who was hostessing when we first arrived was terrible. And to give her a break, I think she was probably about fourteen. There were three empty tables, and she didn't seem to be in any rush to get patrons seated. She finally cleared and set one of the tables, and we stood staring at the set table for a good five minutes before she seated the couple before us. Even then, I think we may have still been waiting for a seat if one of the owners hadn't come out and kicked it into gear. She was the exception, but we almost left.
