I'm giving it 5 stars because the service is outstanding, the food is simple and good and it has become a tradition to eat breakfast there every year on our way home from the Grand Portage Rendezvous. We often run to other re-enactors on their way home too. See you in August!!

Best breakfast on the north shore, best fried potatoes on the planet. The place is very cheap and the food cannot be beat. You see truckers, fisherman and the locals all eating here. Be warned though, if you are uptight and expect to be pampered and expect linen tableclothes and spotless silverware and posh surroundings? SOB is not the place for you and you need to go elsewhere...and they only take cash.

We stopped in for a hearty breakfast before a snowshoe trek, and were greatly impressed! Everything had a homemade feel to it from the French toast to the crisp thick wide strips of bacon and the fluffy eggs. The service was great, friendly, and fair pricing. Awesome!

Very good for what it is - a diner serving up greasy breakfasts for peanuts. Put Tabasco on the fried potatoes.

South of the Border - or SOB as the locals call it - is known for hearty breakfasts and the traditional burger. What is little known is that SOB has some of the best soups around. Chef "Sporto" makes tbe best beef barley and mushroom soup I've ever had! Worth a visit!
