By phone I gave the owner, Duke, a chance to reconcile this meal, but he did not. In for dinner on July 4, 2011. Ordered a prime rib sandwich without the swiss cheese. It was awful - couldn't figure out what the issue was and dawned on me that it was freezer burn. Waitress said no and explained that its sliced every "week". I said I'm staying with my inclination. She was helpful and wanted me to order something else - declined. She felt bad and I reminded her that is not the cook. The meal was taken off the tab. However, when paying the waitress told my guy that the kitchen stated that they were out of prime rib and took this meat out of the freezer. Do you know how long it had to be in there to be freezer burned? A very long - long time. Disgusting. They should have said they were out of the meat - instead of serving old & nasty food. Now, back to Duke. I spoke with him today. He said they never run out of prime rib and that he'll check into this, apologized and thanked me for the call. He didn't ask for my name, number or suggested any appropriate remedy. He should have offered to comp both dinners or something. All he said is that he hopes that I keep them in mind when I vacation again in Ely. Are you serious? I'll tell people to be very careful if eating there. I'm really thinking about calling the MN health department.
