Roma Restaurant

One of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. We made reservations for dinner. We arrived right on time and were told that there were no free tables and we would have to wait. We waited almost 25 minutes for a table. When we were finally seated we were ignored for about 5 miutes until a waitress threw the menus on the table. When the waiter finally decided to take our order he was not friendly. We had to ask for bread twice before he finally brought it. He actually served us our entree BEFORE our dinner salad! I will never eat here again.
My husband and I went to Roma for dinner after purchasing a group-on. We ordered Filet and Prime Rib medium rare. His came out raw, which they corrected. My order came out well done. I was told they could not give me medium rare so I would have to order something else. This would have been fine if I knew it before I had my appetizer. Finding it out as my husband has already started his meal was ridiculous. Since I had a group-on I was given a choice to order something or pay for the meal and use the group-on later. I had already ordered a drink to go with the meal I was not going to get so I just ordered take out for the dog. $45.00 for this evening out was the biggest rip off ever. To add insult to injury they charged me tax on the Prime Rib that I never got.
The Roma Restaurant in Haverhill is a beautiful restaurant alongside the Merrimack River. It offers an elegant, yet comfortable dining atmosphere. The Roma used to offer the most delicious Italian food, steaks and seafood. Their tomato sauce was amazing. I had not been there for years as I was living in Florida for awhile. Recently, I went to the restaurant expecting a wonderful meal, but was SO disappointed. It is under new ownership. They promote their Prime Rib, so I decided that is what I would have. I ordered it Medium Rare. The beef was so tough and full of grizzle that it was very difficult to cut and almost impossible to chew. It was terrible. I told the waitress who was very pleasant and she took it away and offered to bring us Steak Tips instead, telling us that they are very tender and tasty. So, I agreed. After waiting another 20-30 minutes for the Steak Tips, I was once again, very disappointed. The Steak Tips were very tough again and impossible to chew. They had no flavor at all and the meat was like cheap stew beef pieces. I also had the "Rice Pilaf" which was like white rice that they added some chicken broth to. My girlfriend had a vegetable medley with her meal and the vegetables were barely cooked and hard and had no flavor. The waitress once again was very pleasant and apologetic. To try to please us, she brought over two complimentary grapenut pudding desserts. They were okay, but nothing to rave about. I really have to question what it is they are trying to sell as "beef" and even "steak". I am not exaggerating. It was disgusting as was the rice and the vegetables! People go to restaurants and pay big bucks expecting "High Quality Restaurant Food" and "Chef-Quality Meals". I cannot believe the owners sell that crap food and think it is good. They REALLY need a consultant to help them. They get an 8 for service but a 2 for the food, and I am being nice giving them a 2. Hey, the bread and the salad were good.
Good size dishes. You want Italian dinner on the cheap, its the place. Try eating outside in the Summer months. Try the Pork Parm......the cook makes it taste like Veal Parm. The 9.99 meal nights are the best deal in town. Easy and free parking unlike in downtown.
This restaurant is the worst I have ever been too... The owners should be embarrassed by their staff and the quality of their food and establishment. We rented one of the function rooms for a mercy meal for a recently deceased relative. When we arrived at the restaurant the room we had booked had been changed without notice into the loudest area of the restaurant so no one could hear the speeches being made. When the food was served it was delivered to the wrong people (at every table) and the food served to me personally was obviously left overs not finished by another patron. The knife still had meat and sauce on it from the last patron. When I complained the waitress made a scene and argued back instead of just removing the dirty plate. There was no (or very weak) air conditioning in the room. When we asked to make it cooler, we were told that because of the size of our party the room could not get any cooler.
