One of the finest dining experiences you can have in Steamboat Springs. Always an interesting and delicious menu and specials. Portions are plentiful and elegant. The service staff is attentive, friendly and courteous. Located on the Yampa River, the restaurant has a beautiful setting with a large deck and fire pit. Nice happy hour and good entertainment. Phil Armstrong, owner/manager is visible and interactive with guests. Tell him Ellen says hello!
We dined here for dinner on Christmas day 2014. The food was great, the service was friendly and quick, and the building was really pretty. The owner even stopped by to check in on us. The lounge area has a great fireplace and lots of cozy seating. It's also one of the only places I've been that has live music that isn't too loud, and we really appreciated that. The beet salad (as well as the apple salad) was exceptional. The only room for improvement I'd offer for Aurum would be portion sizes. They were absolutely huge. I had the lamb, and got 3 giant chops, plus a ton of sweet potatoes and greens. It was all delicious, but way more than I could eat. My partner had the pork which was also excellent, but the pork steak was so big, plus the sides, we just couldn't finish everything. However, the portions are probably appropriate for the price, as all the entrees were in the $40-50ish range. I would like to see this place offer slightly smaller portions for slightly smaller prices.
I'm going to start off by saying this may be the best meal in Steamboat Springs. The building itself beautifully decorated (both inside the dining room and lounge, and outside on the porch), and it's nestled on the river across from the train tracks, making for a beautiful backdrop to any meal. The food itself is phenomenal. The pork chop was almost hysterically large and the meat itself was divine. While the restaurant has only been open for a short period of time, I will not hesitate to go again. While it is pricey, it may be the best deal in town for high end dining.
