Whole Foods Market

Yesterday the produce section expert asked if we needed anything. Jokingly I said, we were looking for marble cheese like the one I was holding, but with more yellow in it! We all laughed then left. A minute later he came up to us again with 2 blocks of marble cheese in his hands and said: "This one has more yellow in it, would you like it?" Amazing guy!
Hot food bar is the best of all Vancouver stores. Sure it's pricey, but it actually tastes GOOD unlike the other WF stores in the LML. Even the Tiramisu is amazing! My GF and I frequent this store as opposed to local restaurants in the area because we get exactly what we want, in the portions we want.
This store has won the company award - Gold and Silver for the BEST store COMPANY WIDE several years in a row. I love this location, true it's cheaper in the US, but everything is. I also went to the states and my kale salad wasn't chopped properly, the quality control was way off in the Washington store I visited, I've never had a quality problem at the West Van store. Sometimes they are out of something, but they usually ask me if I didn't find anything at check-out and if I'd like help, someone is always very prompt to help out and grab anything I couldn't find. I shop here regularly. I used to get annoyed that I had to do a separate run to another grocery store to get things like the junk cereals I used to enjoy. Now (7 years later) I appreciate that they cultivate their offerings - based on various criteria that I value such as: locally produced or raised; healthy; sustainable; ethically raised/farmed; and organic. They are expensive, but I've come to appreciate that that's the cost of quality or at least it's more reflective of the cost of food that's produced in a way that I want to support. True, some things are priced as high as the producer thinks they can command, but just watch what you buy here, the bill can add up fast. :) So happy I live near-by this gem!!!
They are not the brand they make themselves out to be. They have sugar, soy and canola oil in everything thats not healthy at all. They don't have many good choices for people avoiding sugar and soy. Fruits taste great but cost more. Meats are way over priced and they don't even have organic beef. I'm sorry anything under organic is not acceptable i don't care no growth hormones. They need to make a lot of improvements. Too many shinny sparkly food coloring stuff not enough creativity to bring truly healthy alternatives. Don't be fooled by the marketing it isn't all that healthy there and it is over priced. I still shop there but selectively.
Well, where to start? First, the store has gone downhill year by year... it was a Whole Foods rated gold store, then silver, then bronze, now it has it rock bottom and it goes to show. The displays are getting tackier, the fixtures are dilapidated, some departments have visibly broken furniture and fixtures, customer facilities and tables are filthy, and service is beginning to go downhill. Second, the staff in the Prepared Foods department act stuck up, Produce staff speak in languages other than English and goofing off, and management seem disorganized and running around like they don't know what they're doing. That is not to say, there are some staff that I adore and will always go to. However, it is obvious that management does not care about them because when talking to them they express how frustrated and undervalued they are. Prices seem reasonable for the 365 brand and a few other items which is a plus seeing that they are high quality products. I like what Whole Foods stands for but this store doesn't live up to those standards. Management need to treat their employees better or else they will lose them and lose customers as well. For me I like the idea that I can get to know the people who help me and even talk on a personal level. I really miss the young boy in produce that used to sample all the time before the summer. I also love talking to a few cashiers that are always upbeat, one of them left to visit her family and she told me she wasn't allowed to return to work there. Whole Body staff are really nice and helpful too. I wish management treated their staff better, cause they really do make all the difference. Until the store and management improve, I will not be shopping at this location. I encourage others too so that there is incentive to improve.
