Winchester Steak House

Reviews

Came into this town have never heard of it and neither have any of my friends. Didn't have to ask where to eat you could just tell. This small place with the overflowing parking lot was an easy give away. We went inside and was told it would be at least a 30min wait for a table. So we went to the bar grabbed a beer and sat out side and gabbed it up with others from town and from out of town a very friendly place. A waitress came over and asked if we would like to sit on the deck so we did. She was extremely friendly and attentive to us. We felt like we were the only people in the crowded place. The meal was unbelievably good. We had Prime Rib and it was super tender, cooked absolutely perfect, and excellent flavor. In a nut shell this is one out of the way place that should be on your list of places to go. This is the friendliest best restaurant we encountered on a 2-week vacation touring the upper North West of the US.

We've been there twice and both visits were terrific! The service was pleasant, timely and attentive, but not invasive, the food was great, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. On our first (winter time) visit, we got there late enough to find an empty table right next to the fireplace. It was just the two of us and was very romantic. We had the kids with us on the next visit - and were there right at dinner time - and our table was a little further from the fire but a pleasant experience nonetheless. If you are looking for a nice restaurant in Buffalo, WY, this is the place to go. Skip the restaurant at the Occidental as it is not nearly as good.

I was told on the phone I had a reservation at 7:30. Upon my arrival I was informed they did not take "reservations", but had "priority seating," and that the staff should have specified that on the phone, while acknowledging, "a lot of times they don't." The rude hostess estimated it would be another 20 minutes, which turned into 45 minutes. Food was adequate, wine list mediocre. Don't come hungry, by the time you are seated and served, you'll be hungry again.

to get a good steak.... otherwise, you have to go to Story or Sheridan... nice people, great service, hometown atmosphere
