One of the area's most popular restaurants for around 75 years. Great to be back in the Madison area to visit for Friday Fish Fry. Can't believe how reasonably priced, fast service and massive quantities of great food. Wish we could visit here more often. Nightly menu is fantastic, with regular specials.

A couple times a month, I really get the urge for beer-battered fish fry. Not just any fish fry, but goooood fish fry! But lately it's been nearly impossible to find a decent fish fry. I've recently relocated to the Columbus,WI (fish fry scene almost non- existent) area from Madison (where there are plenty of GOOD fish frys). Last night I Google'd area fish frys and a then unknown-to-me restaurant named Owl's Nest popped up. They have great reviews, and they most deservedly should. First of all, they are very easy to find since they are located right of a busy county highway and it's nearly impossible to miss the huge, brightly lit neon sign out front. Their parking lot was full (good sign!), the parking lot across the the road was also full (really good sign!). We found parking and entered to a packed Owl's Nest. My gf is not a fan of fish, in fact, she hates fish. Often she questions why she comes along with me on these expeditions when I need my fried fish fix, and tonight was no exception. Let's just say that she was not delighted ( to say the least) to have to wait 30 minutes for a table, after driving 35 minutes to get there. The hostess was very nice and promised to squeeze us in a little sooner since we had a small child along with us. While waiting we enjoyed some liquid libations, hey, it's part of the experience! I must say, their whiskey old-fashions sweet...deliciousness! While waiting for the table, a patron of the restaurant did mention that it was unusually busy that evening, and long waits are not always common. Two drinks later, we were sat and quickly greeted by our server. She was very nice and assured my gf that EVERYONE enjoys the fish, and she has never had a disappointed customer. Wow! , two surprises here, my gf asks about the fish and EVERYONE enjoys the fish at Owl's Nest. My gf hesitantly ordered the fish. We ordered mac-n-cheese for the little one. Our server quickly brought out bread, beans, and coleslaw all served home-style. The little one devoured a plate of beans and coleslaw and went back for more before his mac arrived. Our beer-battered fish, french fries, and mac-n-cheese arrived about ten minutes after placing our order. The fish is piled high on a plate in all it's golden, flaky goodness. The fish is perfect. I mean perfect to the point where I can't remember or recall having enjoyed better fish. In fact this is probably THE BEST fish I have ever had. To my surprise, my gf loved the fish. Honestly, she actually ate more fish than I did (which is cool, because she gave me all the fries -they are also really good). There was not a morsel of food left behind, we ate it all, even the little one helped by polishing off the last of the coleslaw and beans. Overall, our experience was great! Great food, great prices, great people. Worth the wait!

This food is amazing best known for the friday night fish fry! This resturant is owned by my grandfather. He has owned this place for 20 years and yet the food is amazing!!

They are lucky the food is good. Last time we were there the service was awful. Our server forgot about us and our food. Haven't been back.
