The Waterfront
Reviews
I have gone to their friday night fish fry for many years. It is dependably excellent. It often has a wait to get a table but it seems like the bar is full of great charactors. In the past the bartenders have been more friendly and fun but they were very special people who will be sadly missed
Want cold food and lousy service? Then the Waterfront is the place for you! The setting on Grindstone Lake is quite nice, but don't let this fool you. The place is not what it's cracked up to be. I ordered my steak sandwich medium rare and it came raw. I had to send it back and it was returned overdone. And believe me, they are not bashful about charging! The hostess was rude. Eleven of us came for dinner and my group of 6 was the first to arrive. We asked for two adjoining tables, but we were unceremoniously reprimanded that if our friends failed to appear within a couple of minutes or so, their table would be given to others. This was my second unpleasant experience at this restaurant. I will not allow them another chance to provide me with a third unpleasant experience. Needless to say, I will not return.
We visit Hayward annually, and no trip is complete without a visit to The Waterfront. I highly recommend their generous (and delicious) Friday fish fry. It is a little on the pricey side, but you get giant endless proportions to enjoy. The atmosphere is typical of north woods resturants, woodsy with a bar, but the service has always been friendly. The only word of warning I can offer is to arrive early and expect to wait, during the summer The Waterfront gets -very- busy with people coming by car and by boat.
Have gone to The Waterfront for years, went last night, was extremely disappointed. Very poor service, the Waitress, did not refill our drinks, unless we called her and asked. She didn't ask if we wanted mushrooms or onions on the steaks, the steak was more than half fat. Asked for coffee, she said sorry the coffeemaker is broken. She forgot one order of fries, had to remind her. She was in a hurry, it seemed always to get back to one table where a bunch of young gentlemen were sitting. We felt as if we were a bother to her. This has never been the norm at The Waterfront, usually they make you feel welcome, and make sure you have what you want and need. I am just very disappointed with this last visit.
The food is excellent, maybe a little on the pricey side but the portions are generous. Dining lakeside is great, especially their deck on the water's edge. Excellent cocktails, great bar.
