Got the pork tenderloin on a croissant. Ridiculous flavor, the lemonade was on point. Will definitely stop back by next time we drive 151.
Not sure what the big deal is about this place. Been driving past it each time we visit Wintergreen so when we had an opportunity to stop by for lunch, we took it. I had high hopes after reading some positive reviews. Walked into a hole-in-the-wall place and anticipated finding a hidden jewel. I'd say it was anything but that. For lunch, you can have a sandwich or you can have a sandwich. The Pork BBQ sandwich was just so-so. Nothing to really write home about. Bread was burnt and crumbled when you took a bite. It also took forever for us to get our sandwich. Not sure what the delay was since it wasn't that busy. At least 30 min of wait for their signature Pork BBQ sandwich which you'd expect they'd be able to put together in few minutes. If you are curious about this place, my recommendation is to skip it and drive on.
Bring your appetite. This place is small, but can satisfy the largest hankering for some fine bar b'que. The pork sandwich is the best, with or without slaw. Ask them to toast the bun for an extra kick. They have ribs, beef, and chicken too. Can order by the lb. careful now, it's got a kick to it. Not a swig of milk hot, but just enough to let you know it's there. Friendly place. Owner is there every day. Great view of the mountains from the outside seating. Don't judge a book by it's cover. This place has great food.
This may be a good representation of NW Virginia barbeque, but I was unimpressed. To me, this is the perfect example of how a bad sauce can ruin all the work that goes into making great meat. Here, the sauce is....well, it was pepper and something else. I could not tell you what else was in the sauce because after 2-3 bites my mouth was hot and I could not taste anything more. I have had barbecue in Memphis, Texas, North Carolina, SE Virginia, South Carolina - all better than this.
Love this place forever. They make a smoked turkey sandwich that will change your life and AMAZING potato salad. Strawberry is the man!
