Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store

Best lunch we have enjoyed so far in 2015 & we eat out frequently. Best fried chicken in Jackson. Today I enjoyed three servings of fried chicken, fried okra, cream potatoes, black eyed peas, cooked cabbage, turnip greens, white beans, sweet potatoes, yellow summer squash, sour kraut & crackling corn bread. Dessert was blueberry cobbler & banana pudding. Now there were many other selections including a cold salad bar & hot soups. We highly recommend this family buffet.
Catfish was really good! Cashier was so polite and sweet. The food server... not so much!
Oh my god I didn't think it was possible to get more grease into food. I felt like I was eating grease sticks flavored with bacon. Is it any wonder we have an obesity problem in this country. The eggs were decent. The potatoes were an absolute soggy mess. There were only 4 people in the entire place at 7:15 a.m. I guess next time I will be at Cracker Barrel....augh.
It was my first time to get "to go" food. I have eaten at this restaurant for years. I called ahead and asked to be told all about the "to go" process. I was told that they closed at 8:00 pm and was told what foods were offered that day and how much a "to go" plate costs, as well as how many servings of food were included. When I arrived at a little after 7:00 pm, the "to go" section was closed. After explaining I had called, etc. and what I'd been told...even though the "eat in" side was still open, I was refused food. The acting manager stated that it is absolutely against policy to bring "to go" containers of any type over to the "eat in" side. She did give us gift certificates for "to go" food at a later time. However, that didn't help much for the time being. I ended up having to go to another local restaurant to get food "to go". I later brought all this to the attention of the owner, as well as the fact that we just usually "eat in" (like I stated, after years of enjoying this restaurant, this was my first experience with "take out"). The owner sent us gift certificates for "eat in" that covered the meal, drink and tax!!!! Naturally, I was very pleased with that gesture!!! The only other thing that sort of "bothered" me was that while taking advantage of the "eat in" one day...our waiter offered us "to go" cups for our drinks upon our leaving!!! Hahahaha!!! I don't know whether the policy was changed or this waiter was breaking the rules. Regardless of the "unpleasant" experience with "to go", we continue to REALLY ENJOY eating at Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store!!! The food is fabulous and the service is really good. I would DEFINITELY recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys down home southern cooked food. It's just as good or better than homemade!!!!
I was excited to go to this buffet because of all their advertisements but when I got there I highly disappointed. This was my first time. I sat in a booth all by myself for 10-15 minutes. I felt stupid. The waitress looked at me and slightly rolled her eyes. I was the only Asian person there. I felt racially discriminated. Then, I decided to get some utensil because I saw that everyone had utensil and sat back down. Another Caucasian couple came in after me and guess who the waitress served...of course not me. At that point, I really upset and somewhat emotional because of my recent death of my grandmother. I got out of my seat and went the cashier and told her about the service I've gotten and left and vowed to never come back here again. Never in my life...did I feel so mistreated. It was a horrible day and experience. After that, I was still hungry so I went to Waffle House, which next door. They were very kind.
