Second favorite venue in the city, after Johnny Brenda's. Great place, great sound, plenty of room. Easy to get a drink and take a pee. Lucky to have a place like UT in Philly.

Saw The New Pornographers here last night (awesome show). Tried Prohibition Tap Room before the show. Awful, slow, didn't-care bartender. Bad layout, packed, too tough to get a drink. EVERYONE was upset about the speed of service but what can you do? It's not like the area is spoiled for choices. Went to The Institute for more room, 40-50 people in there, one bartender who was also the waiter and bus boy - waited 15 minutes to get beer, finally got it and it was warm. SINNER! How do you charge me $6 per beer average and serve it warm after making me wait that long? And what's up with the only two bars close to the UT and you don't have enough staff on to handle the crowds?? Horrible management. And warm beer. I'm still mad about that. Decided to forget it and go to Union Transfer for pre-show beers. Best decision ever made. No crowd at the bar, no lines, plenty of tables, saw the opening band at a show I attended for the first time since I can remember and they were great. Cool, roomy venue. Plenty of bar staff. Pricey beer because you're at the venue but nowhere near what the stadiums and CrapFinity Live charge (UT was $6.50 - stadiums and CrapFinity are $7.75 and up). Biased because the show was so good - but loved this venue. Would go back in a second. If you are thinking about seeing a band here, do it. Absolutely worth it. They even have a coat check and the bathrooms are still nice.

I've been here 4 times in the past year and a half and loved every experience. The venue is intimate and yet not too crowded. It's setup very nicely and those of us that are 21+ have easy access to a decent selection of beverages. Also, they get some awesome bands there.

Went for a show back in October 2013. After the show was done they invited everyone to stay for the next show even if they didnt have a ticket. The place was hella packed, Handled an emergency situation rather well when a kid stage dove and had to be taken by an ambulance. Really close to Public Transit Lines. Easy to find. Wonderful building. Overall amazing.

UT is top notch. Its pretty much perfect size when the show is sold out and the stage pushed back and the sound is great. The interior is amazing with original lighting and woodwork. Beer selection is decent and priced very good. Even the bouncers are cool. We have all been to venues (Troc/E Factory) where bouncers are rude and have an attitude. Ive been going to R5 events for over a decade and they continue to promote great shows. Congrats Sean and R5 for a great venue.
