Penn Yan Diner
Reviews
Wow---this was really good diner food. I had an exit strategy ready because the outside looked rundown and I was concerned that the inside might be in disrepair too---not at all! Cute as a button and you could tell the owners cared. The inside was well maintained and clean. Food was perfection! A diner that gets both the eggs and the home fries right will win me over---and they offered local maple syrup for French toast! A bonus was listening to the friendly give and take between the locals and the cook and waitress---apparently suggestions to the menu are welcome. No wonder the place had only two empty seats when I walked in on a Sunday morning. And the cutest little curved door --- like a doll house---gets you in and out of this gem.
I loved the food and environment before it changed hands and at first the food wasn't very good with the new owner but now the food is great. I definitely recommend one of the in house made pies. They are fonomanal! Especially the coconut cream pie, definitely my favorite!
I just went to the Penn Yan Diner for the first time ever tonight. The food was excellent (roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy) and the owners are really friendly. I was also really impressed with the french onion soup. They told me they just bought the place a little over a year ago. So if you've been there in the past and weren't satisfied, try it again. You won't be disappointed.
If you are looking for an authentic small town diner experience with good food at reasonable prices this is a great place to go.
