Sagano Japanese Bistro and Steakhouse

I am disappointed that they no longer have sushi. The hibachi food is good and the entertainment is always nice. However, I made reservations for a surprise birthday party and the hostess was making me feel very rushed due to the fact that the birthday girl was 10 minutes late. She made me feel bad about the amount of time it was taking to get started and I got a rude vibe in general from her. The rest of the staff was great. I would eat here again but I definitely wouldn't make a party reservation because God forbid the surprise guest is 10 minutes late, the whole place might fall apart.
Probably my 3rd or 4th time eating here. Fantastic sushi and sashimi , good sized portions and good service .
This was a second time I had visited Saganos. The first was in Flint and it was horrible, however, I decided to try Saganos Brighton as I was told it was great by an acquaintance. Well it was just as horrid. First let me tell you that the service is subpar. When we arrived the hostess was back joking around with the sushi chef. Having saw my fiance and myself walk in they finished their conversation before attending to us. Then the hostess had to look for a seat in an empty restaurant. When the waitress came to serve us she was very aloof and seemed to hover over our table as if she wanted to join in our conversation. It was a truly awkward experience service-wise. So our sushi arrives and immediately I smell a faint fish smell which I know is not normal for sushi. When she leaves I inspect my order which was: a vegetable roll (which was wrong I believe I was given an uonami roll), a spicy tuna roll, and a tnt roll (which is spicy tuna with roe and chili sauce.) Well needless to say it all looked odd, smelled weird, and upon tasting it knew something was not right. I even went as far as to ask the server if the tuna used was canned. The tuna was very light in color, very bland in taste, and smelled like no other sashimi grade tuna I have ever had before. The server assured me it was fresh, however another server had told me that they have been trying other "mixtures" as they have had many complaints. Mixtures? Well, what is there to mix it is suppose to be raw tuna. After further research I believe Saganos is still using Escolar tuna. I say this because after my initial flint visit I was very sick. Well after voicing our disappointment the server said she would discount our bill as we had only eaten 2 pieces from 3 rolls. We initially get our bill and she had discounted me 1 roll at $7. I then had to talk to the manager who I knew was aware to get all the sushi taken off the bill. This is the last time I will ever visit a Saganos and I would definitely not recommend the sushi to anyone. IMO mikis in Ann Arbor is far better and I would imagine as they also own sushi zen they would be decent as well. I don't know why all the other reviews have ranked this place as even decent. I am from Toledo and this place would not last more than a few months there in the highly competitive sushi market.
The food was great the cook was fun it was an awesome night out !! Don't listen to the bad reviews!! I felt as though I had to post cuz obviously only people with a problem do. Ty it!!
This was my Hubby's first experience with Hibachi deal. Food was delicious, show was fun however, the chef that cooked for us found a hair in my Hubby's food & then a few minutes later I found 1 in my food. Neither were of same color or consistentcy as our hair. Would have been different if the person who prepared the food had not found the hair. I told waitress & hostess & no apologies or discount given. Everytime I think of it my stomach turns. Also it was too pricey. Maybe they charged us extra for their-it is added protein.
