Had nice service... Waiter was very courteous and friendly ....
The Village Restaurant is a hidden gem in the small town of Shelburne Falls. The quality of the food is that home style satisfying experience you loved growing up as a kid. The service was great and the the atmosphere was incredibly cozy on the cold November day we went on. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who finds themselves looking for a great place to eat with extremely affordable prices.
I have been visiting family in Shelburne Falls for 20 years and have seen a lot of restaurants come and go. This one is by far the worst. Normally, I'd be happy to see the old Subway go in favor of a Mom and Pop place, but not in this case. The "restaurant" (I'm using that term loosely) is the most rude mom and pop operation I've encountered in a long time. Before even greeting us, the waitress vents about another group not waiting to be seated. It then takes us 20 minutes to get even a glass of water. Our fish sandwiches and salads took 45 minutes with a rude interlude from the owner about how busy they were. The place was barely 2/3 full! I'm sorry if you can't run at capacity, you don't deserve to be in business. Take out the extra 4 tables you can't handle and save everyone the pain of having to deal with rude service. The food was terrible to boot. The french fries were soggy and it was apparent the oil used was very old. The fish sandwich was more breading than fish and overdone in the same wretched oil. The Village Restaurant will probably die a slow death like so many other restaurants in town. The town would be better off if it died a quick one.
My wife and I got the shepherd's pie. It had no flavor whatsoever. None. It was totally unseasoned. On a return visit (I always try to give the restaurant a second chance when I can), I tried the stuffed haddock. It was ok, but not spectacular. The fish itself didn't taste as fresh as I'd like. My wife tried the shepherd's pie a second time (hoping for improvement), and I guess that just fell under the old saying "fool me once..." Service was fast and friendly, and the place was nice and clean, but the food just wasn't very impressive.
The staff was friendly and made you feel like a part of the family and the food was great. I had the beef stroganoff and was tempted to order more just to take home with me. Great quality service and food all around and the cozy and warm atmosphere made it worth the trip
