I had heard about The Vault though the local newspaper. I've never really had any reason to go to Danvers, but the headline "Vault Has Lock on Wings" was enough to make me make the trip. My girlfriend and I headed to the Vault on a Monday night. The first thing you notice is the door. The bar is located in what used to be the business district of the small town. The building used to house a bank. The door is painted to resemble the door of a vault. Once inside, we found a table in the middle of the room. There weren't a whole lot of people there and there's not a whole lot of seating outside the bar. We grabbed a couple menus and waited for the bartender/waiter/cook to finish with a couple other customers. He came over for drink orders. Monday is $1 can night, so I just went with a Bud. My girlfriend got a Bacardi and Diet. By the time he came back with the drinks, we were ready to order. The menus consists of mostly sandwhiches, a few appetizers (including the aforementioned wings), and Butch's pizza. Even though my motivation for going to The Vault was the wings, I went with the 1/3 lb cheeseburger instead. The sandwich wasn't a whole lot. A square hamburger patty on a supermarket bun with a slice of American cheese. The prices on the sandwich are cheap enough (my cheeseburger was $4.00), but they don't come with fries. For another $2, I added fries. If nothing else, The Vault scores huge points with me for their skin-on, fresh cut fries. They were a little undercooked, but stil the highlight of the meal. My girlfriend started with an order of fried cheese balls. They are cubes of cheddar cheese battered and deep fried, served with a side of ranch. They jumped off the menu at us because of our love with Kouri's cheese balls...these are not quite as good, but still delicious. We devoured the whole order in a matter of seconds. For the meal, she ordered the Spicy Chicken Sandwhich. It's a grilled chicken breast that is then covered in the hot wing sauce. This was my chance to try the wing sauce (I did find out later, it's a good thing I didn't want wings because they sold out at lunch). The sauce was hot and a little tangy. She had some ranch left over from the cheese balls to cool down the sandwich just a little. We sat around for a little while after our meal to enjoy a drink and she was still commenting that her mouth was on fire. The Vault is great for Danvers. It sounds like they do well at lunch and on weekends. I think we both enjoyed our meal, but it's a little bit of a drive for us to go back. They have $.25 wing specials on Sunday's and that would probably be the reason for me to go back if I'm not already in the area.
Great small town bar and atmosphere. Your standard bar fare of fried foods but the service and the friendly staff make you feel at home. Drink specials every night of the week. Great value for the food and the portions. My bartender Candi didn't skimp on the alcohol in my jack & cokes. Twenty five cent wings were perfect companion. No the vault isn't glitzy, but that not what I want in a bar.
$1.00 can beers on Mondays is a plus and $.25 chicken wings on Sundays is the best
